Alpine (moutain towns like Telluride, Crested Butte, Jackson Hole, etc)
It's probably best described as a transition zone from semi arid, high desert to alpine. The Ponderosa Pine only needs 10 inches of precipitation per year to grow, so even when you're in the piney woods it's still semi arid. Drive 5 or 10 mins west and now you're getting into real Alpine climate.RoadTrip said:
I guess I've always thought of the Bend/Black Butte area as alpine. YS, I've always thought I wanted to retire there but can't imagine spending $2mm to get what I want in a home. I'm jealous.YellowSnow said:
I'm changing my vote to BWk now after having lived here for coming up on a year. The winters are totally mild and I will take a little bit of snow (40" on average at my house) all day long over the West Side rain. Summers can get a tad hot but temp swings overnight are great for not having to run AC constantly.Kaepsknee said:Write in for the BWk. High Desert of Central Oregon. Could have bought there 15 years ago and was a stooge and didn't. Good fuckin luck now though as it's all a service economy to those who sold their LA houses in 2005.
Although I think it would be prime area for a classy escort service. May need to retain @swaye as a consultant to do some market research in the area.
2018 prices? Lulz. It was still cheap as fuck back then @Kaepsknee . You should see the 2021 prices.
Yep, if you want acreage and a view it's gonna be north of $2 million easy. -

Lots of older retired married couples. So, outside of the few Bob Krafts, doesn't seem like a target rich environment. My impression of Bend is lots of marijuana stores and not that many strip clubs. Got Starz and then?Kaepsknee said:Write in for the BWk. High Desert of Central Oregon. Could have bought there 15 years ago and was a stooge and didn't. Growth-propelled economy in Bend. When the traffic is as bad as Issaquah, the progressives will vote in a Dow Constantine clone and it will be off-to-the-fucktardery.YellowSnow said:
I really like Bend / Sun River / Redmond. Still cheaper than Seattle in a lot of places around there, but you gotta be able to earn a living.salemcoog said:Write in for the BWk. Enjoy Bend while you can. And thank God for the Redmond Airport, or life would already be hell down there. -
