I think one of the aspects to Peterman that's a blessing and a curse is his insistence that recruiting rankings are bullshit.NorwegianHusky said:
I also think he's good. I've been on the record about that for a long time. He's not a new BBK. I just find it annoying that Peterman went out of his way to praise the white guy when they were already talking about someone who is even better.Dennis_DeYoung said:

On one hand, it is good because we know he's not Sarking it and just looking at 247's rankings and recruiting off that list. They obviously eval and make their own decisions.
HOWEVER, the negative aspect of it is that it's just tedious and disingenuous to act like it's not a useful metric. It's not a PERFECT metric, but OBVIOUSLY Pete's evals STRONGLY correlate with the evals of other schools. So, the correlation is .85 and not .99! Who gives a flying fuck?
Pete knows full well that if they could take anyone they wanted his class would be pretty much all 4 and 5 star kids.
Because of that he reflexively contrasts away. It's the problem with being a contrarian. You are just as easily manipulable as a person who agrees with the herd. It's just in reverse.
Contrarianism is the lowest form of intellectual discourse and unfortunately Pete has made it his cross to bear.
I suppose I find it less annoying now because a) he's softening somewhat now that he's getting 5-star kids because he's forced to admit that Ale Kaho is really good, and b) I think he's starting to realize that all the hype around recruiting and football in general is largely harmless.
The problem is when you have a bunch of shit-bags in your class and some Budda Bakers, he instinctively reflexes away and praises the shit-bags and that is fuckkking annoying.
OTOH - this year - not even Pete could bring himself to praise Rich Newton and pretty much everyone else we got is fucking good. So—praise allah—it's going to be less and less annoying over time as 1) we get better recruits, 2) he is forced to come to grips with the reality that his evals and 247s are pretty similar and 3) he just lightens the fuck up about it. -
When you put it like than I can appreciate it more. Not just because you're right that we're getting more talent than before, but also because I can relate to being a contrarian asshole. It's not a good thing to be, but it's a fun thing to be.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Sirmon is really fucking good and plays with amazing fundamentals. Coaches tend to praise those things. HTH

Just went back and listened to the full interview. The reason he said this was because Softy asked him (paraphrased) "You get asked a lot about the 'highly rated' guys like Kaho, but what about some of the guys that people aren't talking about?" He then complemented Sirmon AND Tafisi. This had nothing to do with praising the try hard white dude over the 5 star, it was literally the question Softy asked.GrundleStiltzkin said: -

When asked the same question about his first class, Petersen said the same thing about Gaines.Neighbor2972 said:

I know I’m biased because I played against his dad, but I think he’ll be maybe the best of the three. -
Sirmon is fucking good.
He’s a 4-Star 6-2, 220 ILB with a dad who was a pro football player. He’s got a huge frame and really smooth movement and quick feet. Really good instincts and closes quick. That description of anyone is superlative.
Just because he’s white doesn’t mean he sucks.
Some of my favorite players are white. I used to fucking idolize Tim Meamber. I grew up a Husky fan in the 80s, if I had something against white people I would have hated our team. But I didn’t. We had some incredible players who were white and I loved. Paul Skansi, Curt Marsh, Jimmy Rodgers was a big favorite.
I just hate “white players”. Let’s not act like people don’t get the difference between Tim Meamber and BBK.
Sirmon is way closer to TM than he is BBK. -

How did you grow up in the 80s when you were born in 1947??? -

What a double shit take for both making the comparison AND shitting on BBK. -

A fudgie-Dennis twofer of legendarily bad takes in one thread. Put this shit in the Classics.
-
He looked good in the spring game. Again people get better in this progrum. LIPO.
-
The offense was vanilla and almost all the runs were between the tackles, straight at the ILBs. That's not his weakness, so he'll look good doing what he does best.backthepack said:He looked good in the spring game. Again people get better in this progrum. LIPO.
Where we need to see progress is covering the entire field, sideline-to-sideline. We didn't run any outside sweeps or fly sweeps or bubble screens where he's been inconsistent. I can't tell if he's gotten better since the players were never really tested. -
He’ll be good if he plays with confidence.
-
He’ll be good if he’s not 5 seconds slow in reading the play. I question if he’s got the football IQ, though I have no clue.backthepack said:He’ll be good if he plays with confidence.

The light could turn on for him. However, last year he played a lot like Asa Turner. Extremely passive. Sometimes seemed to purposefully move into blocks so he could take himself out of the play.
If he really is our 2nd best ILB, that's a huge problem -
He looked really good. Also, Heimuli got run over by Pleasant on his TD. No such plays happened to young Jackson.
-
His father was at the spring game.
-
I still hate Sirmon until he actually plays well, but there were glimpses of a good player last year. He has improved. He missed multiple sacks and tackles behind the line, gave up some receptions despite being in pretty good coverage, etc. He’s always a step late and overthinks things.
I think he will end up being okay. He has not shown that he is a starting caliber ILB for a good team. -
We were standing right behind him when Jackson went up the student section and greeted them. Dude looks like he's put on some muscle. He also played pretty well in the scrimmage. Was in position where he needed to be and laid a stick on people.huskyhooligan said:His father was at the spring game.
The "slow footed LB" slight isn't going away until he shows it in a real game, but there's a good chance he's developed into a Tevis-like, ol' reliable type of player.
