The college game is filled with RB's who don't need to be "used correctly" but can simply make plays against the generally diluted quality of defensive players relative to that seen in the NFL. Also, you can't be an RB who just runs "outside zone," you have to be able to go between the tackles, pass protect, and catch the ball. This is not an endorsement of CP's stupid offense, just an observation of football generally, and Salvon often struggled in those facets.
I'm glad for Ahmed but the tape doesn't lie, he missed a ton of holes at UW, had some good runs, and great games, but he just wasn't as good as Polk, Sankey, or Gaskin.
The NFL doesn't really run "feature backs" that much anymore, which will suit Salvon's style just fine. He has the quickness and burst to be a solid rotation player and will have some good days. -
Apparently, they do. Maybe he's so scared now that it makes him get his ass in gear a little quicker than he did in Pac 12 play.backthepack said:

If he makes a career as an established running back, I will be shocked.Kingdome_Urinals said:

Nobody hates him. The case has been laid out. BtP never backs down, which he learned from his Daddy Ballz. It was so impossible for him at Washington because Pete and O line, and yet Myles Gaskin, who's smaller and slower top end, and at best as quick, had 4 1,000 yard seasons, didn't go down on first contact, and was money in critical down and distance.
If you have high standards, that's what you call a good back.
If you have low standards, you call what Ahmed did at Washington elite.
That simple. -
I hated Ahmed when he was here. Don’t care what he does in the NFL
I hate this thread most though -
His offensive sucked, his coaches sucked, play calling sucked. Not one offensive player got better. They all regressed over time.Sources said:Pete’s offense sucked. HTH

Ahmed hasn’t run soft in the NFL. He looks really good.

If he has a career, and it's a bit early for that, let's revisit. Until then, he sucked like a donkey at UW. Maybe he just didn't care and wanted to save himself for the NFL. Sounds like your kinda guy Fudgie. -
I always thought he was good but our scheme wasn't taking advantage of his strengths.
As usual with Pete. -
YouTube highlight reels are a great way to watch a game in 12 minutes, and I've been watching the Dolphins out of the corner of my eye when Husky running backs have been healthy, this last game being no exception. With that out of the way, I present to you Ahmed's first appearance in last game's highlight reel:
-
funny... quite a play. It almost looks like he helps throw the QB to the ground.1to392831weretaken said:YouTube highlight reels are a great way to watch a game in 12 minutes, and I've been watching the Dolphins out of the corner of my eye when Husky running backs have been healthy, this last game being no exception. Ahmed's biggest problem was that he came after Polk, Sankey and Gaskin. We had a string of absolute studs at the position and Ahmed comes along and he's good but flawed and we didn't know how to react to an RB who wasn't amazing.
Part of that was pushback against some who overrated him but it was mostly just not being used to not having the best RB in the conference. I hope he continues to excel at the next level. -
Ahmed was like a Taj Griffin in college. Get the ball and dance toward the sideline.
You either teach away from that, or scheme towards it. -

This is why he won't be taking snaps from Myles when he gets back. AKA the most reliable and assignment sound running back ever.DawgsCanDance said:

Yes he will. Sometimes the board’s love for Myles skews reality. This was a better game rushing than Myles has had all season.Kingdome_Urinals said:

Myles had a 90 yard rush game a couple weeks ago before covid sideline. Add to that 50 receiving yards in the same game, which is more overall productivity than Ahmed yesterday. Then factor in the better blocking Myles provides.
It's the NFL so a well-rounded and pass catching back is highly valued. They can be a nice duo.

This topic is a bloody stump.
What people are forgetting about is the origin of the topic. And that origin was creepy saying that Washington would miss Gaskin, and Fudgie responding to creepy with his now legendary "Ahmed is elite. lol."
It is beyond clear that I was right and that Ahmed did not make anyone forget about a 4-year 1,000 yd. rusher at Washington.
If he winds up having even a decent career in the NFL, and doesn't turn into a Duke Johnson, then good for him, but it won't change anything about his days as a Husky. He was asked to run between the tackles and he couldn't. Myles could. Period. -
It always amazed me as a kid when my dad would point out that Big Ben Davidson basically sucked at UW
