"Sir at 310 lbs. is kind of a freak -- he runs amazingly well and on his sophomore film you see a lot of hash to hash work from him," Liberty assistant coach Shawn White told 247Sports recently. "He tracks down ball carriers even from behind or racing to the sideline. He already has the frame so he's working hard to sculpt it. On offense, he's potentially going to be our starting right tackle and also plays some tight end for us. He passes the eye test and he can move, having run track and running the 200m in a meet."

Being first is okay by me. UW was first to offer 3* ZTF. They saw something they liked and pulled the trigger early. No one really offered Gaines or Jaylen Johnson either. This staff has earned the obligatory LIPO.
This is actually a really good poont. Who saw Gaines as the life wrecker he became? ZTF as well. If there are two spots I trust our coaches to evaluate kids it's DL and DB. They have earned it.

One of the things I pay attention to when watching DL film out of HS kids, particularly on the interior, is what kind of motor do they have in getting outside and pursuing plays down the field. If they have that then I feel pretty good about not only their athleticism, but having a motor to be able to put the work necessary to refine and grow.

The Vegas area is definitely growing as a fertile recruiting ground and our ability to make some very significant inroads there is a massive positive.

Really excited for this commitment because bigs can always be a bit hit and miss ... but things that are really positive things are motor and work ethic. Being big just gets you in the discussion.

Was starting to get looks from Colorado and Michigan. Hasn’t played Jr or Sr year yet so I’m not too surprised he has no offers. Kwat and Malloe are great at evaluating guys that others haven’t paid attention to. Two of the coaches they can be trusted on evals.

"Honestly, there were no negatives," Mells told 247Sports recently. "The scenery was great. I saw everything and felt great vibes. The fans are great up there and I've felt a lot of positivity. Seattle by itself is lovely but on top of it you have a great program with a great staff. I can't wait."

The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Mells was a constant nuisance up front where he used his size and physicality to fill gaps, hold up blocks and get a push into the backfield. When he gets going forward and is able to extend his arms to keep blocks off him, there isn't much offensive linemen can do to prevent him from gaining ground.

A few Mountain West offers from Fresno State, San Jose State and UNLV were also on the table early on, with a number of Power Five programs such as Colorado and Michigan beginning to express interest as well, but the Huskies always looked like the team to beat once they joined the chase.

"I first learned about them a few years ago when coach Scott Huff came to our school to recruit Troy Fautanu," Mells said. "Ever since then I've been building the relationship with them. I have been talking with coach Ikaika Malloe once a week for about nine months now and I feel great about their plan for me up there. He has filled me in on their schemes, the type of plays they run and what they like to do to make stops."

The Huskies have a strong connection at Liberty, with current offensive lineman Fautanu on the roster and 2022 four-star receiver Germie Bernard committed to the program in the next cycle. Washington is also high on the list of Liberty two-way standout Anthony Jones.
