Rome to Chicago
I have no idea how far it is or the time. I remember seeing icebergs
I sat next to a priest. Luckily he didn't try anything as I was 11. -
Now you know where I'm coming from!...RaceBannon said:
Sounds like there were some logistics involved in the whole episode1to392831weretaken said:My longest flight, now that I think about it, was Bellingham to San Diego. Was supposed to be about 2 1/2 hours, but instead the runway at San Diego was fogged in, so we circled until nearly out of fuel and then were diverted to Palm Springs. I didn't know this, but I do now: You can't just land a plane at an airport and unload. These transactions are negotiated in advance, so a surprise landing is kind of a big deal. We sat on the runway for two hours waiting for an agent from the airline to meet with the an agent for the airport to negotiate for fuel. Then, once fueled, there were more negotiations to figure out if we could get off the plane. After hour three--with a six year old and an eight year old to entertain in an aluminum tube--they let us get out and explore the now closed airport. No food available, no booze available. Couldn't rent a car and just drive the couple hours to San Diego, as the rental car desks were closed and the airline hadn't negotiated for baggage handlers to unload the plane.
After about an hour, it was back on the plane. The gate attendants told us they were packing it in and flying us to Vegas for the night. The pilot told us he was going to take one more shot at San Diego, which he did. Successfully.
Took off from Bellingham at some time around noon, landed in San Diego after 11:00. /csb -

Nope. Hell you beat me. Longest single leg for me is LAX to Sydney. That said, it was 5.5 hrs to LAX from IAD (DC) with a layover. Painful.YellowSnow said:I think @swaye is gonna win this one though.
One year, 2017 I believe, I did the IAD to Tokyo (15 hours just shy of LAX-SYD I believe) to Singapore and back flight THREE FUCKING TIMS!!!!!
It's 15 hours direct from Dulles to Tokyo, 5 hour layover, then another 7 to Singapore. It's 33 hours from home to hotel, and then do it all again in reverse 5 days later. And I did it 3 fucking tims in a calendar year. Lucky for me United splits that route with ANA, so at least on some legs I had hot Japanese geisha girls. Needless to say, I was Platinum 1K that year. I also did it all in lay flats in business class. Doing that flight back to back in coach is suicide worthy.
About 500-600 miles depending on how you throttled it. It is not known for its legs. -

It used to take @RaceBannon 6 days on the China Clipper to fly from SFO to Shanghai. Stops in HI, Midway, Wake Island and Guam along the way.DawgsCanDance said:

I have sat there and watched them coming in doing touch and gos - kind of neat.
Longest flight - since I am not a good flyer I refrain from flying - but from Denver to Seattle for number 2's mom's funeral, sat next to a guy that was some hick from western Nebraska. First time flying. He would not shut up, when food and drinks came I hid in a magazine. He ate most of my dinner, asking every time "Are you going to eat that?". Then when I go to finish my drink it is gone - he says "I thought you were done I gave it to the stewardess." Flight attendants had replaced stewardess years earlier.
that is all -
DXB to IAD, only a shade over 7000 miles, but like 14.5 hours.
I was coming from Singapore though, with s 5 hour layover in between, and I had stayed up all night the day before, so it was like 10,000 miles in total and I was jetlagged for like 3 days after I got back. -
Portland to LAX to Sydney. Long day, but the landing in Sydney was a shit show.
Almost the entire flight was at night, so we couldn't really see anything, but about 2 hours out of Sydney it became pretty apparent from the rain hitting the window of the plane and the way we were bouncing around that the weather was ... not good.
About an hour out of Sydney, we were strapped in and it felt like we were inside of a clothes dryer.
I was flying with a bunch of guys I played basketball with (former Husky Todd Bridge was on the team) and we had the last 3 rows of the plane all to ourselves. From my seat, I could overhear the flight attendants in the galley behind me say something to the effect of, "they have to let us land, we don't have any fuel to go anywhere else". No. Shit.
On our descent, the wind was so violent that my stomach remained in my throat for long periods of time. When we broke through the clouds we were nearly on the runway and through the dim light of sunrise it was pretty clear that we were in the midst of something that I assumed was a monsoon.
We hit the runway and the plane began fish-tailing. 7 distinct swerves (the sound of screeching tires included), right, left, right, left, right, left, right. Overhead bins all opened and spilled their contents into the aisles. 1 of the drink carts from the galley broke lose and shot down one aisle before hitting debris from the overhead bins. All of this was accentuated by screams from several passengers.
Absolutely terrifying. TERRIFYING.
We found out as we disembarked that all air traffic had been grounded because of the storm. However, we were running on empty and landing in that storm was our only option. Most physically and emotionally draining 17 hours of my life.
My butt puckers with memories of that experience every time I fly.
Here's the details of the storm, if anyone cares: http://www.extremestorms.com.au/major-flooding-5th-august-1986-sydney/

Longest one leg was Frankfurt to LAX. A little less than 12 hours.
Longest travel experience, flew overnight from Seattle to Frankfurt, picked up my car in parking lot, drive to Brussels airport (4 hours away) to pick up girlfriend, drive back home to Germany (2.5 hours back home). Fuck that was a long day. -

i dont recall going through customs in sing and almost missed the return flight cause i was pounding johnnie gold in the sing air lounge at 6am.
i havent flown 1st on sing/emirates/etc but air travel is pretty much downhill once you fly biz on a non-us carrier.
