74% of Suckattle people support the $15 an hr. minimum wage

It seems like a big hike, even over seven years. I don't think it will kill tens of thousands of jobs like the business element always claims, but what is it now there, nine something? It's the vegan eating, Prius driving, guilty white liberal element throwing a bone to the workin' class, IMO.
-
Why stop at $15? Fuck lets just make it $50. Maybe we can hit $100 by 2030. This will be great for the economy.

The #1 "T" in my SWOT analyses. This year's 10-year plan has been the biggest pain in the ass of all that I have done because of that #fuckingdreckfest of a law which will likely go through in some form.Fire_Marshall_Bill said:It seems like a big hike, even over seven years. I work outside of Seattle, but close enough where we'll still have to raise wages to compete for labor -
I like inflation.
-
People are getting more money. How can that be bad? It's not like businesses have cost structures or anything...
-
$15 is a little high for a burger flipper, but who really gives a fuck? What difference is it going to make in your lives?
-
IDGAFF about booger flippers. It will infect the whole wage structure for organizations in and around the Seattle limits. So you just plan for it. At least it is gradual. Year 1 not so bad. Year 2 - for my company at least (on 4 yr schedule) is when it gets fun
-
What sort of shitty companies do you guys work at where anyone makes near $15/hour and that you can't even afford to pay that?
-
Switzerland scoffs at your puny $15 minimum wage. -
If you go work at a Starbucks or whatever where it literally takes them 2 days to train you to do every fucking thing for your job, you're not worth 15$ an hour.
-
What the fuck are you commies bitching about? Make up your fucking minds.
-
It's not like he'll get much skinnier if workers get a few more bucks in their pockets. -
Good. My salary just doubled.
-
I'm a fairly liberal guy, but I think the $15/hr minimum is a piss poor idea... burger flippers shouldn't be trying to raise a family... if they want to earn more, they should get better skills.
It will indeed infect the whole wage structure. If a welder's assistant, or mechanics apprentice, today earns $15/hr, what incentive will there be for people to be a welder's assistant if they can earn $15/hr just getting stoned and flipping burgers... so now you'll have to pay them $20/hr... and so on... it will cause inflation all the way up the line.
It is just going to create a lazy class of do nothings. At least in Europe, the class of lazy do nothings are educated... but here it will be a bunch of high school drop outs whose primary motivation in life is saving for their next tattoo and next bong. -
Basically you have a bunch of people who think someone else will pay, so they add "everyone deserve a living wage" along with being against war, rape, elder abuse, and child molestation in their profiles in courage quiver and look cool to their friends. The reality is they don't think they will be the ones paying. It's easy to be compassionate and charitable with someone else's business and money. And this is simply charity. You get no compassion points by simply having the government do the dirty work with other peoples money.
I don't know what the equilibrium price is for labor. If it is significant lower that $15 then businesses will invest capital to reduce labor costs. There will be winners and losers. If anyone thinks they only thing that will happen will be everyone making $9.50 will make $15 without other consequences is a fucktard.
In the end, a little more liberty is given up to the government. Set by step we look to the state to provide for our comfort. We demonize those that provide the power to the economic engine and somehow the person paying the bills becomes the problem and the asshole. So government does more. Prints more money, feeds Wall Street, the rich get richer and the middle guy gets fucked again. Government needs to wet their beak in every deal. The corrupt government picks winners and losers, corporatism, cronyism, and special favors are the rule in government. And the people are blind to it because they are happy to do the minimum and feed at the trough of the big government handout.
Fuck you fuck me fuck everyone.
Good day -
Switzerland - $25 /hr minimum wage (soon), most businesses are closed several hours a day in the middle of the day, more than a month of paid vacation, better health, better standard of living. The squalor of the current system here could use some change. We can do better than this and it's embarrassing that we don't. Would you rather be toiling in a shithole factory for 7.95 a hour with one week of paid vacation per year, or working in cheese hut with the cool mountain breeze, the sound of cowbells and crackling of avalanches on the pristine mountains right outside your doorstep. And without getting some fucking disease that some of these pig corporations will give you with the chemicals they use in their factories. But hey, at least you can sue them when you're 65 and dying in the hospital.

Upvote for Seattle.

Switzerland does not currently have a minimum wage.
Switzerland has more economic freedom than the USA. A state mandated minimum wage is a step back for them. Simple fact.
-
Switzerland's been doing it right for longer than America's been in existence. This will only separate them from the pack even more. Last time I checked, the franc was more valuable than the dollar. Used to be the other way around.MikeDamone said:

That's what economic freedom (and a small homogeneous population) will do for a country. State price floors on wages will be a setback for them. -
Looks like we'll find out soon and the argument can be settled on the field and not in the poles.MikeDamone said:oregonblitzkrieg said:

They fact that they are more economically free and their demographics are already settled. Economic freedom and standard of living are highly correlated. (Causation?)oregonblitzkrieg said:

I don't think I would call their population homogeneous. More so than here. But half the country speaks mainly German, the other half speaks French, and a small portion Italian. Economic freedom must also include the freedom from being oppressed by the masters of the machine. Apparently something is wrong there, otherwise they wouldn't be voting on a minimum wage.MikeDamone said:

You don't know what economic freedom means? Or what a homogenous population means. Do some research on economic freedom and we can have an intelligent conversation.oregonblitzkrieg said:

Btw. Switzerland has about the same number of people as Washington state. They are white, Western Europeans. -
Economic freedom is not so easily defined. For some, it's the freedom to oppress others through the machinery of a system, while accumulating a disproportionate horde of gold from a limited supply. The Swiss are homogenous in their race but not in their culture.MikeDamone said:

This thread is full of lols, washington is so fucked, deserves another owentwelve

My college roommate went to Switzerland through foreign exchange twice and would not stop talking about it. They are so isolated it's hard to compare them to any other country in the world. OBK I understand where you're coming from but to me economic freedom also means that if your "pig of an employer" is really being that shitty then you simply go back to school, move, or do what you need to do to get a better job. If the employer is losing labor because of that they will increase the pay/benefits to make the job tolerable or else risk going out of business. Of course if they're being taxed to death they can't do anything about it.

If 74% of people in Seattle want a $15 minimum wage then they should get it. If its successful they can celebrate it and if it fucks everything up then they can live with the repercussions. I'm all for natural consequences.
