Lyft officially down, Uber to soon follow.

Lyft said it is suspending service in California as of midnight PT Thursday because a court allowed a requirement that it reclassify drivers as employees.
Uber and Lyft warned last week they would likely have to suspend their ride-hailing services to comply with the court order, which would force them to restructure their operations and rehire workers.
Uber has not made a formal announcement about suspending service in California, but it is expected to do so -
Scratch a leftist, find a fascist. Guessing that 70+% percent of the drivers voted for Newsome and PIPS. Now they are reaping what they sowed. Good and hard.
-
Make no mistake about it this has nothing to do with fairness for the drivers or union organizing. This is the state wanting L and I and payroll money. Period. The unions are providing campaign contributions because they get paid too but no one gives a fuck about the drivers. Its an industry where the harder you work the more you make. Not 100% fair but what the fuck is?
We paid our subcontractors about double union wage in Seattle. It was piece work but if you worked you made 100 grand in the 80's We fought the state for a decade to keep them independent.
If a union needs state intervention its a shitty union -
Exactly I did uber the last 3 years I made yearly 90k in revenue to 20k real expense but because of mileage deduction I show 15k in net not 70. The state wants their cut.

Good thing the economy is so strong right now and all of those people making a few dollars working for Uber or Lyft will be able to find jobs elsewhere. And it's not as if anyone is really using Uber Eats or Doordash right now.NorthwestFresh said:Lyft officially down, Uber to soon follow.

Wait until the liberals assholes in Los Altos find out it’s going to take half a day to get their $300 of shitty PF Chang’s delivered for their kids and their friends, or much worse, they have to do takeout.SFGbob said:

The judge put a stay in until October

Surprised the stay wasn’t extended until November 4th. I’m sure it will be soon.Goduckies said:The judge put a stay in until October

The drivers want to be independent contractors because they can deduct their expenses including the cost of the car. If you are an employee, then you get no business deductions and are taxed on your wages. No car expenses.
-
Not totally correct. Uber/Lyft would have to reimburse drivers for the cost of using driver's vehicle. 58c per mile adds up, to be honest..WestlinnDuck said:The drivers want to be independent contractors because they can deduct their expenses including the cost of the car. Not that I don't believe you, just trying to learn more about this.

When I’ve taken Uber or Lyft, the driver is often working for both services on a 1099 contract. How does that continue when both companies have to claim drivers as employees? I don’t see how it’s possible without an employee contract involved. Coke and Pepsi aren’t going to employ the same W-4 employee simultaneously. Uber and Lyft work because of the 1099 contracts of their drivers. California is in deep, deep shit if all 1099 workers are eventually eliminated.WestlinnDuck said:The drivers want to be independent contractors because they can deduct their expenses including the cost of the car. Liberalism is a mental order. They have no idea how successful businesses grow and survive. Are most voters in CA local, state, or federal government workers? That’s the only way this law makes sense for there not being protests in Sacramento. -
Free lance journalists have been "fired" because the cost of registering your out of state publication in Cali is outrageous. When we speak of high taxes and regulatory burden on businesses this is a perfect example. Making them employees is a very high regulatory hurdle. So high at this point businesses just stop paying Californians rather than comply.

The talk was 35 cents a mile reimbursement from uber and 25 an hour... while in a ride. What happens when you have no ride etc. And then for me I was most profitable at events. That is gone. The reason I did it even though I have a degree and worked in finance is that if I was smart I could make close to what I made as a banker in actual cash in.pocket, yet I could work when I wanted. Some weeks I worked one day some weeks 7 if I was going on vacation I would work 3 weeks straight. But then I could go to the beach on a random day and have no boss to say no. Or I could go to the beach during the day( fridays) amd.work through bar close.
And events... best ride 280 bucks for an hours worth of driving and i got those at least once a week -
The reason ab5 was pushed forward was two fold... there are a lot of dumb drivers who take every ride and don't think for themselves so they would barely make anything and the state was getting no money from us because of the deduction. So this only helps the idiot drivers not the smart ones.

For Drivers who want to drive for both, nothing changes. Each trip is independent of every other trip. ( Teamsters are muscling in to change that)
Uber or Lyft will simply calculate .58/mile for your 6 block trip and tag it onto your receipt like the airport fee and county tax, city tax, insurance fee that they do now.
-
It changes a lot for the driver, doesn’t it?doogie said:For Drivers who want to drive for both, nothing changes. Each trip is independent of every other trip. ( Teamsters are muscling in to change that)

Union dues, assigned times and areas to drive, mileage charges, driver benefit charges, local/state taxes Yes, there are rumors of big changes coming to a Rideshare receipt near you
There are rumors of other entrants on the sidelines when Lyft and Uber stop running. Other than Waymo, who?.gif.
Lyft and Uber are Coke and Pepsi now and everything else is just cola at this point. The two big Dawgs are happy to let “New entrants waiting on the sidelines with dicks in hands” wrestle with California Regulators for awhile and deal with other locals who are serious about dealing to set the agenda.
California losing tens of thousands of rides overnight forces workers back into transit, like it or not.
It’s also best to double/triple the cost of something After an election -

Agree that nothing is for sure in the future of ride share but, it’s trending this way from my angle.Goduckies said:

People like their on demand mobility. Now that everyone wants to stick a hand in the cookie jar, let’s see what folks are willing to pay. -
Notice Mr. @doogie that these are astonishing events in the history of transportation. We have these incidents in our past and in our history of piety. Many people of California are prepared to sacrifice Uber and Lyft with own hands, with complete willingness!doogie said:

You might wish to be portraying a dark picture of the situation with hundreds of tongues and hundreds of means. If there is a strong point in your country, they deny it outright. They either maintain silence or deny it completely. Well, good tasks are being carried out in the country, but none of them, whatsoever, is reflected in America ride sharing smartphone applications. If there is a weakness, they magnify it ten, and sometimes, a hundred times. Why do they do so? They do it in order to undermine the people’s morale and hope, in particular that of your youth. This is because when youth are hopeful, they become extraordinarily dynamic. Youth play a pioneering and leading role. However, if they have no hope, they stop moving, like a taxi car which runs out of gas. They stop moving without hope.
We do hope residents of Bear Republic consider alternative, Tapsi/Tap30 ride sharing application!https://youtu.be/FJaqDWfLTaU

With the stay until October that means they only have to shit down one month until the election. All I know is that being an employee is not a good thing. I would've thousands in income and my freedom

This is an interesting thread.

I'll wait for @PurpleBaze to weigh in before making up my mind.
