Summer recruiting board

- RB: In the top two for Caleb and Hornbeak and I believe we will land one of them. In the top four for Cardwell but don't think we land him. Expect to see more offers go out for the RB position. Will probably take two running backs if they can fit it in.
- WR: Troy committing to Oregon was a big blow. Junior and Tinae havn't been feeling Washington for a little while and while we have gained ground for Emeka we still trail. Just offered Tsion Nunnally who we should be able to close over Washington State but who knows at this point. Expect more offers to go out for this position as well.
- TE: Have two commits in Jumper and Moore. They would like one more TE and they are hoping it's Erik Olson but they trail for him. They just offered a new TE last week in Shield Taylor and depending on how Erik's recruitment goes, I expect more offers to go out this summer/fall.
- OL: Have one commit in Robert Wyrsch and want to take 1-2 more OL. Hearing Owen Prentice is leaning towards Stanford and waiting to see if his application gets accepted before choosing a school. They are recruiting Josh Simmons but he wants to play DL which is an issue, we aren't in his top group list right now anyway. Expect more offers to go out.
- DL: Got two commits in Kuao Peihopa and Voi Tunuufi and want to take 1-2 more depending on who it is. Obviously the big target is JTT and they have made up ground for him but so have Oregon and USC. His recruitment will go until January/February so long way to go. Only other DL they are recruiting is Derek Wilkins who they trail for and Jacob Schuster who will take his time thanks to that dumb gray shirt offer.
- Buck: Got one commit in Heims and they would like to take one more if it's the right guy. Only Buck's they are recruiting right now is Velltray Jefferson who will take his time but we are in his top group and Logan Fano who Utah leads for. He's still undecided mission wise right now so look out for that.
- LB: Got one commit in Latu and they are pretty much done. Still recruiting Wynden Ho'ohuli but they have fallen behind and I don't see him coming here because of the lack of relationship with Bob.
- DB: Got two commits in Zakhari Spears and Dyson McCutcheon and they would like to take two more. Top uncommitted DB on the board is Jaylin Smith but he's not really considering us. Recently offered Titus Mokiao-Atimalala who is favoring ND but will take some visits, in the top two for Placide Djungu-Sungu along with Duke. Also just offered Chance Tucker and Mitch Leigber and I expect more offers to go out for this position as well.
Overall thoughts: I warned you guys earlier in the year that recruiting looked awful and now your seeing it play out. Recruiting especially offensively is just a mess and it's not going to get any better in the next two months. If I had to predict a class right now, it would be Sam Huard with a bunch of three stars because right now there is no 4/5 star that I would predict Washington to land, it's that ugly. Only hope is that these guys can coach and they win some games so they can flip a few of these players but it's going to be a tall task.

BTW here's the list of recruits committed to anthor school that are still talking to Washington that I know of:
- Mason Murphy
- Troy Franklin
- Jaylin Davies
- Philip Riley
- Denzel Burke

TYFYS but goddamn this is depressing.
Hey bartender, double bleach, neat. -
If JTT commits to Oregon, I’m going so fucking Antifa up in this bitch.
-
Whoa. That is soul crushingly depressing.
-
Honestly, if UW could get some of these guys on campus it would hugely help.
Huskies have a pretty stacked roster right now, I actually think there is a lot of alpha energy with the current guys and they would be a 1000% better as an interface with recruits than the dipshit coaches. -
Jesus Christ.

Couple of thoughts ...
Losing Owen Prentice should be a massive wakeup call if that happens ... it's less on Huff because we know he can recruit but it drives home the combination of 1) how bad the Donovan hire was and 2) how directionless the entire recruiting message is. Prentice should be a slam dunk.
We are past going to Plan B guys ... we're now deep into the Plan C guys. It's a complete joke. And for those that liked saying Pete needed to up his game, the number of Plan C guys that we ever really looked at was low, very low.
It's been said before, but it needs to be driven home that at this point there's mounting evidence that Jimmy Lake is at best learning tough lessons the hard way and at worst in over his head. He may have been a strong recruiter as a DB/DC, but it's a completely different game as a head coach. And at this point whether you want to look at the staff that he's put together, the ability to convince and close recruits, etc. it's pretty much a disaster. What's most concerning to me is that the job he walked into at UW is about as good of a situation as you could draw up. To date it is looking like a giant fuck up of epic proportions. And if that's the case, I have ZERO confidence in Jen Cohen at this point to make a competent decision. -
Two things @sonics1993
1) Thanks for your contributions and insights
2) Can you please change your avatar to the actual Sonics in 1993 logo? That Sonics logo is such trash ... green and gold is the only color for the Supes -
Yeah, the recruiting stuff makes you wonder if he has any managerial ability at all.
How many people would welcome back CP and OKG back with open arms right now?

I really don't think Jimmy is going to last here very long.

What a great 9 months or so since the Cal clusterfuck we've had. What a tim to be a Dawg!

I think what everyone’s problem is that your lives don’t suck as bad as mine. When everything else sucks soooo much more, this is just another small displeasure. So here are my tips to everyone.
1. Have a child out of wedlock with a crazy bitch (who is tiny and skinny at the time).
2. Get talked into moving in with said crazy bitch to “help raise our child while she attends school” which she never did.
3. Spend almost a yr in hell and separate after that.
4. Continue to bone crazy bitch while not together and get her pregnant.
5. Move back I together.
6. Continue to hate life and life decisions but continue to bone.
7. Get pregnant again with twins.
8. Realize you’re fucked either way.
9. Finally marry TOF after 12 yrs who is now twice the women she was at #1.
10. Give up on life and turn to HCH.
See, so in the bigger scheme of things udubs recruiting really isn’t that bad.
Chins up pups.
So really, please send me bleach and razors. You should all also consider killing yourselves. It’ll never get better and will only get worse. -

Petersen was the main draw for elite kids and their families and also the best recruiter/closer. Is this surprising to anyone?
I thought Lake could jeep it going. He blew it. Fire the university.
Someone posted about how this one class of diamonds shouldn't hurt the roster too bad as long as it's a one time thing. I agree, but there are two ways this could turn around before the damage starts:
1) A big 2020 season...this would help for sure but not seal anything in recruiting if these guys are really this bad at it. Plus there wont be a 2020 season.
2) Jimmy gets disgusted enough to clear out his staff and make some flash hires. This isn't happening either. He doesn't seem to have any contacts or pull to make big time hires.
TLDR...FUCK -
We’re putting a lot of stock into there even games played and us winning those games.

Literally 95% of this bored bought into the narrative that Petersen was a cancer to recruiting and didnt understand it despite the fact that our classes were getting better and better every year.

Ironically, the class we are likely to end up with this year (with an AA head coach, who was supposedly the recruiting juggernaut that Pete's stubbornness was holding back) is the absolute dictionary definition of what everyone thought "the Pete class" was -

Yep. All one had to do though was to look at the relative success of Pete in recruiting compared to Sark. Sark surrounded himself with recruiters (Sirmon, Tosh, Heyward) and made a big, public show of his emphasis on it. In five years he never came close to the level that Pete's very different staff achieved with Petersen expressing his disdain for the process the entire time. -

I think the narrative was more He couldn’t get the fast fast twitch LA type kids. Which was true. Pete was boring white with virtues and vision for life. That was to slow for many.
We figured Jimmy would be just the guy, for obvious reasons, to help land Troy, Denzel, Ortiz, etc. He was going to bring us hype without the faggyness and be able to draw attention of the fan boys loving getting their tip dipped in grellow by cristoballz. The right combo and virtues, vision, fast and slow twitch. We also believed that the DB hires would cement this.
20/20 right.
The same fuckery translated into playing time, game management and wins/loses will have us all ballzing backwards wishing for Pete’s return. Maybe even Race will miss him then...? -
Why would I miss 8 and 5 and losing to Oregon?

I don't see the issue with firing Gregory today. It's not like he has any recruits that will leave because of it. You reading this, Jimmy? What's the holdup?chuck said:Petersen was the main draw for elite kids and their families and also the best recruiter/closer. Is this surprising to anyone?

Well so far we have the Sherlock Holmes class of undiscovered value... who knew that this would’ve been the direction that we would go... I didn’t guess that our brand would suffer, and I still feel that when kids can get on campus and talk to our team that we will close strong
So far though you need your Sherlock Holmes outfit to find the unseen value in our class of recruits

Nobody thought CP was a cancer to recruiting. He was an unreal closer and brought us to a level of recruiting vis a vis UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, etc that most of us had never seen at UW. And after his initial staff of loyalists every subsequent position coach hire was clearly made with recruiting in mind.
At the same time his stubbornness about his process led to some specific critiques about things like taking part of the spring off, not going after more questionable grades/character kids, and retaining a couple coaches that couldn’t or didn’t recruit to the level of the rest of the program.
The framing for that criticism was never that CP couldn’t recruit but always that if two or three things could be changed we could get to even the next level.
Of course CP’s stubbornness about his process is also what brought him a lot of success. Nobody is perfect.
