It was deliberately broken by Far Left and mostly White Liberals who saw too many whites and Asians outpacing their black, Hispanic and N.A. kids in the classrooms. The folks who run the system mostly have XYZ "Studies" Degrees from online schools we've never heard of and have no problem-solving competence whatsoever. So instead of improving and expanding the offerings to reach more kids, they instead chose to destroy the system because that's all vandals and incompetents know how to do. I guarantee Seattle Public Schools will try to re-institute mandatory desegregation busing to "re-integrate" the schools within the next few years, even though the public universally hates it and the African American population in Seattle continues to decline relative to other groups. "Force that shit at gunpoint if you have to," say the Liberal morons.

Private schools, STEM academies and many Charter Schools do a good job of educating minority kids compared to the publics that have only one remedy: Keep throwing money on the raging fire. Inner-City public school education is the most corrupt, incompetent public service that exists today, and it's achieved that status largely within the last 5 years after decades of hard work and improvement. Urban public schools have been broken for far longer than 5 years. But even the good schools are teaching the racial identity/Howard Zinn/1619 garbage.

Seattle was heading in the right direction, increasing enrollment and greater offerings of AP classes at each of it's High Schools, focusing on improving neighborhood schools instead of further watering them down. Ironically, many of those improvements happened under a Black Superintendent. But it was short-lived, once that SI moved on and the Liberal Weenies took over and targeted any class or program that had too many whites in it. One might call it racist, but you can't say that in Seattle as a white person. So it's just called "ruined" instead.

2/3 of the Peoples History from Zinn is pure dreamy socialist garbage. The rest is just slanted bullshit, but dumb teachers treat it as Gospel 'cause it's full of anti-white hate and white self-hatred.
