I understood the basics as a 10 year old debating Angela Edwards during the Carter/Ford contest in 1976. Politics in the United States has truly devolved into the promises made by 3rd graders running for class president. If, by the age of reason, you can't intrinsically understand that the person telling you they're going to give you all the free shit in the world is lying, then there's probably not a lot of hope for your success later in life.
