I'm certain that SPD had suspect descriptions. A physical description of a suspect is the first thing the police seek and broadcast so they know who to look for. That description always includes race. It's kind of important. It's broadcast over SPD's frequency and we know the local news monitors it and had full knowledge of what that description was.

But the police didn't know their names and home addresses at the time therefore the News Media couldn't report the skin color of the perps despite the fact that there were most likely dozens of witnesses to this shooting.
