If my sister died my dad would be a wreck.
If my wife died he would be upset for me and the kids (and himself, he loves my wife) but nowhere near at the same level.

I see both sides, but it’s feasible to put everything aside for 4-5 hours and coach the game. Either choice he made would be acceptable. Not sure what the right thing to do in this case is. Nobody does. Each person is different on how they handle things. Him not coaching in the game would not change anything.
