if theres a school administration that gives less fucks about football than UW's, its stanford.

4 and 8 in year whatever and his seat is as cool as the underside of the pillow
Will he finally go to the NFL or stay and rip our hearts out some more? -
Do they an opening for the Andrew Luck director of offense position?

As much as we complain about roster mismanagement, Shaw really one upped us by taking 14 players two years in a row.
Like I don't understand how supposedly smart coaches keep getting into these situations. Its not like Stanford is struggling to recruit, they just aren't taking enough players. This is not hard math. -
i think that a lot of their recruits can't get in and then a whole nother batch can't stay in... a buddy of mine played for Stanford during the Luck/Harbaugh years. He said the academis are really fucking hard and they don't gift wrap passing grades for the athletes. You go to Stanford and you are expected to be a top student and top athlete... it always seems like it'll be easy to get through once you're in but they don't help you that much b/c their global brand isn't worth watering down for a few football players. That said, graduate transfers obviously got the paper already, so that can't be the reason.Neighbor2972 said:As much as we complain about roster mismanagement, Shaw really one upped us by taking 14 players two years in a row.

man... are we sure this isn't some kind of physics experiment at Stanford instead?

Let's see if they all reappear at Temple.Meek said:man... are we sure this isn't some kind of physics experiment at Stanford instead?

Ultimately most of these kids went to Stanford to win, and win damn it in front of other teams fans. That didn't happen this year and I'm guessing maybe the atmosphere down there isn't the greatest.

Are any of these guys good? Maybe they getting their couches sold for them.

None of the names jump out. However, 12 transferring out seems troubling.BayDawg said:Are any of these guys good? Maybe they getting their couches sold for them.

How can a team survive that? If Shaw is going the next guy is going to be fucked for years.GrundleStiltzkin said:

Weird deal -

Last Sunday before Redskins game local radio was talking about a “splash” hire, and that Bruce Allen wanted Shaw. You want to see a demoralized fan base and apocalyptic attendance at games. Look no further than the Redskins. Come to think of it, David Shaw would be right at home with 60% of the stadium empty or filled with opposing fans.

Doing some fuzzy math between 247's scholarship breakdown and Stanford's roster page, assuming Costello leaves and everybody else stays, one dozen departing seniors puts Stanford at 64 scholarships. That's not the end of the world if they bring in a full class.
The positional breakdown is pretty crazy, though: Discounting true freshmen, they'll have nine offensive linemen (zero listed as guards!) compared to eight running backs and seven tight ends. Only five receivers. A whopping ONE interior defensive lineman, compared to nine linebackers and six defensive ends. Thirteen DBs seems about right, but a single long snapper and single kicker sums up the specialists, so either Jet Toner does all the punting and kicking or they've got a walk-on handling some of that.
They actually have the 20th ranked class at the moment (even with a scholarship to a long snapper), with 18 commits, evenly distributed positionally. They're going to continue to have some UW-2019esque holes in their roster for a couple of years, but it looks like they're recruiting smartly to eventually fix the problem. Even if they don't take another commit this cycle, they'll be carrying more scholarship players than they usually do. Losing these 12 isn't going to kill them, but strange recruiting in previous years (two total OL in '18, one transferring out) might.

Fuck Stanfurd. I’ve been waiting for Shaw to start slipping and he just fell the fuck down.

But they do it the right way. No mercenaries allowed.nycgobears said:Fuck Stanfurd. I’ve been waiting for Shaw to start slipping and he just fell the fuck down.

Costello is in the transfer portal

Costello? What the flying fuck?

In a fucking heartbeat, yes.RaceBannon said: -
Would need to see pics of Costello's mom and girlfriend.

If I'm reading the situation correctly, this is entirely an issue with Stanford players qualifying for grad school there. Twelve out of the 13 in the portal will have graduated and are looking for grad transfers. I believe Stanford makes them actually qualify for and get accepted into a graduate program to stay a fifth year. I'm guessing the graduate programs there probably aren't too keen on easing requirements for jocks. Or too keen on jocks in general.
I'd be curious to see if this is a problem going back to previous years and, if not, what's changed. I don't think it's as simple as "every senior on the team wants to leave because they hate it."
Costello is legit good, and UW is a few scholarships shy of 85. I'm not sure the short term benefits of going the mercenary route are worth the future implications with recruiting and whatnot. I also think the whole grad transfer program in general is shitty and should be amended with some kind of rule that players take a full course load for the entire year in their graduate program of choice or both the player and school face stiff penalties. -
Isn't there something about UW that prevents grad transfers? I can't remember the last one.

I think the something was Pete.UWhuskytskeet said:Isn't there something about UW that prevents grad transfers? I can't remember the last one.
