Regarding the Young Talent™
2019, I don't know. McDuffie might be the only one consistently for me. Puka I guess, but now a much-documented health problem. A couple of the DTs have been good at times, but none have had anywhere near the performance that #MyGaines did against USC in 2015.

Vita did nothing noteworthy in 2015. He barely did in 16
Gianes, Baker, and Adams did
Id say Turner and Williams will be solid players but they are taking their lumps -
Good point on Vita.PostGameOrangeSlices said:Vita did nothing noteworthy in 2015. He barely did in 16

And I should have shoutout #MyDick.
Where did Latu go? -
Tuli and Taki still look like they will be monsters in the coming years. Almost all of our great DTs have taken a few years to develop.

I think what Tuli is doing is pretty comparable time what Gaines did in his redshirt freshman year.
Tuli probably has the higher ceiling. Guys like Tuli and Vea are multi year investments because they are so out of shape. It can’t be done in a year. Tuli still does well because he’s so strong, but I bet if you watched him every play, there are plays where his effort is shit because he’s tired and it’s hard for a guy that big to always play hard. -
It's not like our coaching staff just forget how to develop interior DL. In a few years we might be looking at DL play the likes of which we haven't seen since the early 90s.RoadDawg55 said:I think what Tuli is doing is pretty comparable time what Gaines did in his redshirt freshman year.

Vita and Gaines held that Alabama team to a standstill for much of the game. They covered up much of the weaknesses until the team was eventually Overwhelmed.
People forget that.
If we had depth plus the talent like that imagine ...
Vita and Gaines plus rotating tuli and taki plus bandes and faatui etc ... Peterman get your shit together! -
On the Offensive side:
Mele (RSFr) filled in very well for Harris
Otton (RSSo) looks great
Bynum has played very well now that he is getting time and targets, puka looked good before his foot died
Newton (RSFr) looks like the next very good UW RB
Also, Henry (RSSo) looks like a new kicker and should be a national kicker award finalist
Defense:
The young DL is going to be good. Especially if Tryon, Tuli, and Latu continue to improve as they have this season. Also, Tuitele who they are trying to RS.
Mcduffie has looked like one of the best young DBs UW has had.
Gordon and Hampton are just RSFr and are being asked to play a lot of coverage as only one deep safety or no help outside (because ILB). They aren't quite ready/dominate but they are going to be very good.
Turner is being forced to learn to play LB/S hybrid as a true freshman which even Budda wasn't ready for his true freshman year.
McKinney is a massive disappointment and has got to be a portal casualty, I thought we were going to all hate him, but he can't even get on the field.
Molden and Taylor, I am not at all worried about, they, like Bryant, are being asked to do way too much out of the slot/dime/nickel/striker/LB position because the ILB sucks so much.
There is a lot of young talent. DOOG! DOOG! DOOG!
None of it will matter though: Heimuli, Fuavai, Fowler, Calvert, Tuputala, Trice, and Miki Ah You are all redshirting ILB this year... better hope two of them figure it out or UW is going to suffer the same ILB problems next year though. Maybe they will get to play in the final 3 games plus the bowl game that's left.
Asa needs to drink the Rino Cum and add 20+ lbs in the offseason so he can play ILB.
Eason needs to be convinced to come back or it's all a mute poont anyways. -
Young guys that Grundle should feel good about in regards to the next few years to match up to 2015:
Sophomores
- Bynum is really coming on the last two weeks
- Otton is a stud
- Kirkland mauls people
- Tryon needs to be better but has had some flashes, I think he’s still learning football
- Ngata needs to be better but has looked good when he plays inside
- Bain still is unknown but he reminds me of Tryon, athleticism jumps off the screen but is learning
RS Freshman
- Dick is a fucking man
- Spiker has had nice catches when he gets snaps
- Ozzy, not willing to write him off because every writer said he was dominating camp, he just hasn’t gotten any balls thrown his way
- Mele has taken over for Harris twice with zero snap issues or coverage breakdowns
- Tuli has been a monster pushing people into the QB and just needs consistency and growth
- Taki hasn’t looked as good as Tuli, but has held his own as a freshman
- ZTF has played well in limited time and has great outside size
- Kyler has taken his lumps but has had some great plays as well
True Freahman
- Puka is the best WR on the roster
- McDuffie has been lights out as a starting CB
- Fautanu looked amazing in camp before getting hurt
- Latu has looked great when he plays
- Tuitele looked good in his few exhibition games
- Turner has looked incredible
- Calvert by all accounts was going to get a lot of run this year before he got hurt
There is a lot of talent in the young guys, which is why everyone has been clamoring for them to play over vets who have struggled.
Edit: fuck you and your 30 seconds @Houhusky
Seems we were thinking identical thoughts. -
Irregardless we run Petermen's offense.
