SP+ rankings are baffling

Overall: 13th
Offense: 7th
Defense: 38th
Special Teams: 2nd

Next closest team with 3 losses is USC at 23.

Shout out to the special teams turnaround this year. Dramatically better. Although we're still not getting anything out of our return game.

Offense 7th? That is the highest we've been ranked in the Petersen era. I think we got a pretty big boost after putting up some very good numbers against an overvalued defense (Oregon was ranked #1 going into Saturday). Makes the Stanford performance even more head scratching.

Defense 38th. We fell off a cliff here. Worst defense in the Petersen era. Last 3 years we were 4th, 13th, and 4th.

Also Sagarin has us at 18 and FPI at 14. The thing is what we know - we've been upset. We also know it's Pete's fault. This is a flawed team but most of the pieces are there. If Pete screwed his head on straight and we start simply playing our best players we are an instant national title contender.

Neither the offense or the defense completely suck, they just aren't good enough to make plays when you need them to.

Our defense has carried our offense the last few years, this year Eason is bailing out our bad offense, next year the defense will improve but our offense will suck. An endless cycle of being one piece away.

This. Defense will be good next year, but if Eason doesn’t come back the offense will suck. Then we basically have to wait for Huard and he actually has to be good early on. Nothing guaranteed at all.

Have you seen Sirmon play? That’s what I thought.

The offense is #28 nationally through 8 games vs #88 last year. 35.6 ppg thus far vs 26 ppg last year. Would have been nice to have Gaskin and Eason on the same team.

Would be nice for sure but it is way down the totem pole in terms of importance. Compared to the fucktard play call / misuse of personnel (not just WRs, even at RB position) are much bigger reason our offense is not doing better than it is now.

Would've been nice with an experienced OC who could make halftime adjustments

Looks like we're making a late push to get in to the S+P playoffs!
