Salvon

Basically you guys decided he sucked last year and are looking for confirmation bias. Fuck off. He’s a good player and showed he can be a good back on saturday.

He needs more touches. And like consecutive carries so that he gets his rhythm

It’s pathetic that he only got 21 carries. With the way we were dropping everything and it being a late late late game that throws off timing. He should have gotten 30+ carries.

Disagree. Watching him try and run between the tackles for the most part is maddening. He constantly misses holes and is indecisive. Not a natural running back IMO. He needs the ball in space.backthepack said:This place has decided to hate him for some reason. He was the only good thing about our offense on saturday. Now the narrative is that he doesn’t get the TUFF “needed” yards when in actuality that was more fucktarded play calling than anything else. We refuse to spread it on short yardage situations and go inside zone or something to that effect. We get really tight with our formations which get more defenders in the box. I will give you that he sometimes gets into his blockers backs to fast but he seemed to really reign it in on Saturday.

Watch the fucking replay. He ran hard and ran well on Saturday. He’s a good fucking player. You can keep your stupid narratives and champion lesser players like Dick Newt though.honeybadger40 said:

How 'bout we not look at the Cal game in a vacuum and look at his entire body of work thus far?backthepack said:

As a starter? Because he only has 2 games where he gets consistent carried and the OL was fucking horrid against EWUhoneybadger40 said:

I'll give you this, he wasn't the 1-5 worst factors in the offense Saturday.

As I've said all along, he reminds me of a young Louis Rankin and he'll probably have a banner senior year as he develops.backthepack said:This place has decided to hate him for some reason. That’s an FScomparsion. I’ll give you that sometimes he needs to slow down and not get on his blockers backs so quickly. But he did a good job of that on saturday. He’s going to be all-conference this yearDerekJohnson said:

I felt that he missed the hole on the inside carriers a few times. Ran into traffic. He is a good running, but needs better vision or feel for where the hole is. -
A lot of confirmation bias in this thread

This is the Louis Rankin that Derek is referring to:backthepack said:

He was very good on Saturday. Seriously one of the few definite bright spots. C'mon guys your eyes are as good as mine

You never even watched Louis Rankin. It's not a diss.backthepack said:

Nobody ever said he wasn't a 'good' player. Stop being dramatic and leave that to Mike Seaver. The origin of all of this was ME asking one simple question: how will you? replace Myles Gaskin? Most clear thinking people responded by saying that we? probably won't. Some idiot responded by saying "easy: the elite terrorist."
If he has space to run to right away, he'll hit it and hurt you. There's no question about that.
If he does not have space to run to right away, he'll hesitate, jump and dodge and get caught up in traffic. And he goes down almost always on first contact.
These things are just true. He doesn't create, he doesn't have the finesse moves and vision to run in heavy traffic and he sure as shit doesn't break tackles. If you can't see that then you need to get into a Bridge game with Grandpa Sankey.
Louis Rankin was bigger and less sudden with greater down field speed. It's been a while, but I remember Rankin as a different player other than he also liked to run into his blockers. -
“He doesn’t create” go watch the fucking touchdown run creep. I never you said he sucked. People on here say it all the time, it’d a dumb narrative. Moot point anyways cuz we suck
-
He was ok. Not great. Made a great cut on the TD but also missed some holes and still cant break a tackle to save his life. I expect him to get better as the season progresses.
-
He literally broke like 4 tackles lol. Again here we are with our dumb narratives.
-
He was not the problem. I don’t understand, why cal was ok running the ball the whole time, while we just wanted to throw to our sorry ass receivers???
-
I did watch it. There was a hole on the outside to pop into that we could drive a truck through. He hit it and ran fast for 20 yards. That's his sweet spot.backthepack said:“He doesn’t create” go watch the fucking touchdown run creep. I never you said he sucked. People on here say it all the time, it’d a dumb narrative. Go back and watch a highlight reel of Gaskin and then watch Ahmed's. They are very different backs. All the things I said are a challenge for him were natural and easy for Gaskin. That kid could get lost in a sea of bodies and emerge on his feet. Getting a hand on him was not enough. And, this is important, he had a knack for doing it when it was absolutely needed, either critical to keep a drive alive, or the dagger that just killed the opponent's will. He did his shit in a very timely way. It's no accident he broke 1K four fucking times.
Ahmed may be best suited as a slot guy. He might also benefit from being in a well executed option offense. But lining up deep and hitting the LOS is not his thing. That might change, but the things with which he struggles don't tend to get better.
He'll reel off a more big TD runs this season. I've no doubt about that, and of course you take it. But that is not the body of work that will replace Myles Gaskin. You need a guy who gets you 3 to 5 yards ROUTINELY. Not a guy who helps you go 3 and out and then occasionally pops a fantastic 45 yd. TD run on a good drive. -
We've been spoiled the last 4 years with one of the best RBs in UW history, The guy up next is never going to live up to that. It's just Salvon's cross to bear
-
I don't think the running game poses an issue for the offense.
Rankin had a solid senior campaign. That's about it. The other years not so much. I think it is safe to Salvon is better than Rankin. -
I thought Salvon played great, hopefully he always plays like that.
I dont think running between the tackles is the problem with him. It has more to do with when he makes his cut. If he gets the ball and immediately cuts he's good, if he fucks around and tries to be Gaskin he gets stuck in the mud. Hopefully he can break the habit, but its happened too many times to feel good about it -
People are down on Ahmed because some banned poster here made the bold claim that Ahmed>Gaskin. Now people here can't help to compare the two, and when you do, it doesn't bode well for Ahmed.

Sans 2014, Its been longer than just 4 years of really get RB play for UW. -
The only back that pushes the pile is Newton.
