How many top 25 teams did Utah beat in 2004 before they played Pitt?

So does this mean Pete is as good as Urbs because he ran the table before at BSU?
How does the rest of Pete's record compare to Urbs? Does 'when he gets his guys in there' Pete compare well to 'when he gets his guys in there' Urbs? It's Year 6 Bucko!

I care about what they do when they get to where they get. I'm sure Zook left the cupboards full for Urbs - Zook was a great recruiter - be Urbs did something with it, while Zook did nothing with it.

You want a mircacle? Criscoballz got FIU to a bowel gayme. That was a miracle.

What I wanna know about a corch is, can you get me to January, and when you get me there, can you take care of bidness? Or are you Alexander the Great of Moral Victories?

The rest belongs in that trash heap known as the CFB Sub-board.

Utah's schedule wasn't THAT bad. 67th per Sagarin. Undefeated Auburn's was 60th because the SEC and Bama sucked that year. Of course they got left out too.

Utah did have a number of P5 matchups- North Carolina, Arizona and A&M- but all were mediocre.

Their shot was if A&M had won the B12 or at least beaten Texas or Oklahoma. They were beating both at halftime but Franchione's teams were known for second half collapses.

The Oklahoma loss was particularly bad. A&M outgained Adrian Petersen's Sooners by over 1.25 yards per play but turned the ball over three times and didn't force any.

WR Terrence Murphy twice fumbled inside the Aggies' own 10 yard line leading to two easy touchdowns for Oklahoma.

    Bet you didn't know that

Exacatly. No one was prepared for the @oregonblitzkrieg and Chip came damn close to pulling off a miracle. No one is winning a NT in this era w/o elite talent. The evidence is very clear in this repspeck: there is not such thing as magic.
At least elite talent in reasonable amounts.

If there's no magic, there's no miracle worker then. I can live with that. I've never believed in unicorns anyway.

Still, Urbs. Winner at every stop. Don't underestimate how hard it is to take your show on the road. Most coaches can never rekindle the magic. The numbers are grim.
That's all I've wanted to hear from you @creepycoug - i.e., Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy ain't real. Urbs is an all time great and a level above Pete (until Pete gets a NT) and his success at 3 programs in unparalleled. As @Dennis_DeYoung always say, talent don't mean shit w/o good corching. My goal here for us to not harsh on Pete too much for losing to Satan and Urbs with vastly inferior talent.

Chizak and Dabo both won NT's a "reasonable" amount of elite talent (i.e., top 10- 15 level) but were helped by 1st overall NFL pick QBs. Chip winning in 2010 would have been an unparalleled achievement in the BCS/CFP era.

If they had another decent guard they would have had natty

I think there could be some debate about 'vastly' with last year's Ohio State team. That wasn't any kind of Ohio State all time killer. Pretty flawed team. He should have been more competitive with them. Same with PSU. Bama no question.

Whosoever has done more at more places?

Saban was mediocrity personified at Michigan State and lasted just long enough for a cup o' coffee in the league.

Spurrier made Duke respectable, made Florida a power, and made S. Carolina respectable. Meyer did more.

Jimmy made Okie State respectable, built a power at Miami that would outlast him, and built Dallas up from nothing. If that's your guy, I'm listening.

DJ was solid at Kent State, built a program at Washington and opted for early retirement. Not in the convo.

Meyer did it at Bowling, Utah, won 2 at Florida, one of which was against an arguably better team, won one at Buck and slept walk through a Rose Bowl over Peterman.

If it ain't Meyer it's nobody.
How are you of all people not throwing this guy's hat in the ring?

    technically 2 tricks plays.

The hook and ladder to tie the game and the Statue of Liberty to win it.

No telling what he could have accomplished had he stayed. He was a good coach, but he sure didn't prove that he could match what Urbs has done at multiple stops. What else did he ever do?

I'll grant you that the '83 Miami team was not the talent buffet that future Miami teams would become, but there were some great players on that team who went on to have really solid NFL careers. What made that happen as much as anything was having an insanely accurate passing QB who had big brass balls in Bernie Kosar, a first round pick at WR in Eddie Brown, and a lunch pale TE in Glenn Dennison. Miami ran a pro set offense and their passing game made Nebraska feel like they were on Mars. Couple that with a couple of solid running backs who did their part, and you have what was the backbone of that upset. Those powerful Big 8 Nebraska and Oklahoma State teams didn't see sophisticated passing until they got into January, and they ran into it with that Miami team.

I think Johnson had the better body of work, though he won only one title there himself.

It wasn't the talent buffet of later teams, but @creepycoug Howard was still a revolutionary when it came to TBSing and that's what got them their first NT. It doesn't matter how good of a corch you are - you still need a certain level of talent to win NT's and Pete's finally bringing in those classes now.
