He’s not taking any officials other than Oregon. Obviously recruiting is fluid but this is good news.

He thinks Oregon will put him in a better spot to get after the qb. Oregon philosophically gets after the qb more than UW. Tyron will get his but UW probably sits back again next year.

Won't be the case. There's been a philosophy change under Jimmy Lake to be more aggressive in the front seven. UW will get way more sacks than they did last season. But let's be real, this kid loves Oregon's uniforms and that's what he's attracted to. Not the substance because Oregon has none. They have a completely unproven head coach and defensive coordinator. He can say whatever he wants now when no games have been played. But when Oregon doesn't win he's gone and "please respect his decision".

Bowman and Latu aren’t going to be prolific pass rushers. The only player in your front seven that will strike any fear of pass rush is Tyron. He will get his because he’s good not because of Lake.

If Lake gets much more aggressive with inexperience across the board in the front seven, he would be foolish. The hallmark of UW is the lack of explosion plays. What UW does is not sexy but effective.

Bowman and Latu are contain guys. Latu may develop a pass rush set down the road but Bowman is what he is. I can’t imagine a wholesale philosophy change. God forbid Tyron gets injured. The staff would be wise to transition slowly.

Avalos ran a defense for three years, lol. Sure, he’s not Venables. The two years he ran the DL he recruited and developed Demarcus Lawrence. He also developed Vander Esch, Correa and Weaver. There’s also a track record of a defensive philosophy.

My whole family is dyed in the wool BSU fans since we’re from Idaho. Avalos is well respected by BSU fans. He dealt with heavy turnover and injury when he took over and kept the defense very respectable.

You'll just have to wait and see. UW has more than Tryon. Rice, Ngata, Latu, and Tupuola-Fetui are talented as well. Latu is better than Kayvon by the way. Bowman is a short try hard but he's quick and strong and benefits the run defense.

They can be more aggressive with the pass rush and still cover in the back end just as well. If anything the improved pass rush will make the back end even better.

Everyone’s talking about the difference between jimmy lake and jimmy lake
Last year was his first season as a DC. Now that he has earned the confidence of Petersen he has the authority to add some new wrinkles to the defense as he see fit. Plus, our edge rushers have simply gotten a lot better which helps make his job easier.

If you think UW is all of sudden changing philosophy because of Latu, Rice and Ngata, I just don’t know what to say. You have a conservative staff and you know the old adage, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
