Washington, Nebraska, and Kentucky recruiting him the hardest. No trips scheduled currently but looking at June 22nd visit which is our rising stars camp. Looking like we are the favorites.
I’m a huge fan of this kid’s game. -
Eklund has him, Paster, Elijah Jackson, and Hector as our dbs this class. That's a pretty solid group but I wouldn't be overjoyed
-
You know lake and Harris will turn at least 1/2 into nfl quality DB’s. Imagine what could be done with ringo, Phillips, and ricks.bananasnblondes said:Eklund has him, Paster, Elijah Jackson, and Hector as our dbs this class. That's a pretty solid group but I wouldn't be overjoyed

No Oregon mentioned is interesting, thought this would be a UW-Oregon battle. Though they already have 3 DB commits so they probably cooled on him.FKA_Mousecop said:https://247sports.com/college/washington/Article/Washington-Huskies-Football-Recruiting-Makell-Esteen-Washington-Is-One-Of-The-Schools-Standing-Out-For-Esteen-132173056/

Which is fine by me, I really like Esteen, and he sounds like a lock at this point. -
He is 100% a backup plan for Oregon.Neighbor2972 said:

So now we're down to taking guys that aren't even good enough for Oregon?!? WTF?dtd said:

I am sure this kid is great and all but when you beat out Kentucky to get him I do not get any form of a boner.
edit: I should have read more than the headline. Offered by the entire Pac-12 pretty much. Partial boner fully engaged. -
This isn’t a great recruiting win but I love the player. A better version of KamFab imo.

Given Lake's track record I think it's safe to say that's Oregon's mistake, not ours. Jimmy's evals > Heyward's evals, and it's not even close.RealRhino said:

Makell on his visit
"I'm working to graduate early, so I want to know where I'm going as soon as possible," Esteen said. "There as a part of me that thought about committing. I really loved it there, but I think I'm going to take more visits and then I will decide." -

Sounds like he wanted to commit, but per Pete's policy, the coaches wouldn't accept it if he was still planning on taking visits.FKA_Mousecop said:Makell on his visit

It results in less decommits but it also results in less commits...

It’s pretty crazy that we offered Makell really early on last year and how under the radar he’s gone still. Xavion Alford and Ryan Watts blew up when we offered but Jimmy offered Esteen before them, Ayden Hector, Covington, and I want to say almost the exact same time same time as Clark Phillips. He should be the only coach who is allowed to say stupid shit like “we evaluate talent differently”
The hard part and the most important part now isn’t just closing, but closing ASAP. Esteen, Covington, and Hector should know right this second they aren’t going to find anything better than UDUB.https://youtu.be/xGytDsqkQY8

What is the fucking hold up? Again, Jimmy deserves all the slack in the world & context is different with every recruit, but how the fuck do we not have instant commits on low profile guys with the recent success we’ve had? The Jackson vs Paster stuff = 🤮. They offered Jackson cuz he has a higher ceiling than Paster due to his length Jimmy likes and they thought they’d need to sweeten the deal for Kell. They didn’t need to at all and now they have to wait for Jackson to pick somewhere so we don’t offend anyone. But the James Smith offer was pretty weird too even tho I like him more than Paster.
I would expect with the Kelee news a) Kelee prolly still unofficially visits for a game b) that Jimmy now starts putting pressure on guys like Kell and Jacobe ESPECIALLY with Jacobe tryna sneak USC back in. Jimmy don’t play that “I’m not interested in them but all the sudden want to take a visit there without telling the UDUB coaches” shit.https://youtu.be/Z6EsNyIRG-g

Do you have any planned visits coming up?
“I am planning on taking one to Oregon – an official.”
Nice. Have you started thinking about putting out a top schools list?
“I haven’t yet, but I will. I am not sure when.”
Have you started narrowing in on a commitment date?
“I think I will commit before the season.”
When you make that verbal commitment, what will that school and program have for you that will make them the ideal fit for you?
“I am looking for a program that will give me my best shot at going to the league (NFL). I am looking for a school that will develop me the best to give me that shot and give me a top education to back me up in life after football.” -
Not huge on Oregon getting the final visit. If he really means that last quote then we're fine, but quite commonly I've seen recruits say that shit and then pick schools like Oregon.

My read is Esteen and Covington are silent commits who were both ready to commit to UW after their official visits here but were asked by Petersen to take at least one more OV to another school just to be sure they're ready to shut it down.

Lawndale (Calif.) defensive back Makell Esteen still has a pair of Pac-12 schools at the top of his board and could make a decision any time.
Esteen is one of the top defensive backs out West and one of the most versatile as well. He has the ability to play corner or safety in college and has been a ball magnet for the last three seasons. He’ll be a four-year starter at Lawndale and has an incredible 19 interceptions in his career.
As a junior, he picked off eight passes to go along with 90 tackles, including eight for loss. He also caught 21 balls for 358 yards and six touchdowns as a receiver but we think his upside is highest on the defensive side of the ball and that’s where most schools are currently recruiting him.
He's a highly instinctive player, always around the football and just has a knack for the big play and being in the right place at the right time. Whether he stays at corner or plays safety will likely be determined by how much bigger he gets two to three years from now and how athletic he stays with added size but wherever he lines up, expect him to make a lot of plays.
On the recruiting front, Oregon and Washington have been the two schools most consistently linked with Esteen and he said that remains the case.
"Kentucky and Nebraska are involved too but I have the best relationship with the coaches from Oregon and Washington,” Esteen said. “With Washington, coach (Jimmy) Lake and coach (Will) Harris are the two coaches I talk with and at Oregon, it’s coach Donte (Williams) and coach Tre (Watson).
“I took an official visit to Washington back in June and really liked it and I’ve been to Oregon for unofficial visits already. They’re both great schools and very unique. Washington does a great job developing DBs and they get guys drafted. Oregon has been recruiting me hard for a while now and I have great relationships with that staff.”
Esteen said he doesn’t have any other official visits planned right now and wasn’t sure if he’ll take any more.
“I would like to take at least one more visit, just to see another school but I’m not sure I’ll do it before I make my decision,” Esteen said. “I think where I’m at right now with the process, I could make my decision any time.
“The biggest factors for me in making the decision will be where I see myself at, where I think I’ll be most comfortable. I don't really have a set timeframe right now for making a decision, like I said, it could come any time, just whenever I feel I'm ready." -
Greg Biggins 2 hours ago
"Makell was a pretty heavy Oregon lean early in the spring and they're still talking with him right now but I don't think he's as high a priority as he once was. UW is pushing pretty hard and I think they're probably the team to beat right now."
