A billion dollars for Durant?!?

The issue is they’re going to lose this Draymond even if they resign him. He’s 29, when he starts losing athleticism it’s going to get ugly quickly.salemcoog said: -
Fair point. And He won't be able to be Fat Dray half of the Season and then decide to work hard and lose weight in February and still be Playoff Dray. He will need to keep that weight off and maybe lose even more like Tim Duncan did. If Green takes care of himself, he's got 3 strong years left.allpurpleallgold said: -
The problem for GS is if they don’t sign Durant they are still over the cap so it’s not like they can use that money elsewhere unless they likewise don’t sign Klay or he takes less then max. GS is finding out how hard it is to maintain a dynasty in a salary cap era once it comes time to pay your stars.salemcoog said:I don't think GS will re-sign Durant. They are better off with a healthy core group of Dray, Klay and Steph, Looney. I'd keep Iggy until He quit
Obviously losing KD and then having to retool was tough on them once they couldn't play Portland every night. I'm not real sure that GS wins with a Healthy Durant but it's 50/50.
I credit GS losing more to the downgrade in role players over the years. They were bringing former all stars off of the bench at the beginning of their run. This year they had to bring in guys like Bell, Quinn Cook, Bogut, Jaremko and McKinnie. Big difference in the quality of player there. -
True. And you seem to have Caps and FA dialed in. I like that about you. Not like in a crimson hanky in my back pocket kinda like. But appreciate all the same.
Looking at their situation, I think their best move is not so much scoring another big FA but to concentrate on adding another mid level 3 and D guy to their core and improving their Bench.
Let Durant walk.
‘19-‘20 is a throw away year which gives them 2 off seasons to find the OKGs that they need to contend again. Their bench is a joke now and can be substantially upgraded in 2 off seasons. -
Rich guys care about being rich and keeping their money or they would give tickets away and hand out keg cups every night. A BILLION dollars is a ridiculous amount of money to pay in luxury tax for 4 years.PurpleThrobber said:
It’s all about the valuation. -
I don't think people undervalue green. I think people understand that he has two things going against him. 1) he's a massive douche and eventually(or already) he's going to be so annoying his talent isn't worth the headaches he causes for the team. And 2) he's going to be an elite defender until he retires, but his other skills will erode enough where paying max salary for a defender isn't logical.salemcoog said:
The dude is amazing especially on that team. He doesn't "need" shots, so he fits in perfectly on a team with 3 shoot first guys. -
This. They aren’t fans who value championships that much. Something will give.FreeChavez said: -
Fans don't value championships that much either.RoadDawg55 said: -
The Warriors would be stupid to not sign KD to a deal IF he wanted to return ... but it’s way more than 81% likely he’s going somewhere in New York
They will need to make a tough decision at some point on Draymond ... his highest value is to a team like the Warriors ... you put him on a mediocre team and he’s worthless. I would never spend max on him in an open market. The Warriors night for reasons mentioned. I disagree that he wears thin ... he’s the pulse of the team when it comes to intensity and defense. Lose him and I do think that they take a step back.
The bigger question to me is how do they handle next year? They need to get younger a bit and as their core get older will need to spread the burden of minutes, etc ... tanking a season isn’t the worst idea I’ve heard of -

This. There is no way no matter how much anyone has that you can convince me paying a billion dollars for basically 3 years of KD makes any sense at all.

They are going to be paying a portion of that $1B with or without KD ... the numbers really only get crazy if they keep all 4 of them together.GDS said:

Championship teams are laden with douches that supposedly are tearing a locker room apart throughout history. If you show up at money time, that’s all that counts. Hell. I’m not sure Golden State Beats Portland without him this season.FreeChavez said:

As long Draymond takes care of his body, He’s got at least 3 more strong seasons left. Pay the man.
