Derek usually does a good job of laying out the philosophical roadmap of the website and eliciting sufficient donations during the summer donation drives. I do not agree with ostracizing or bullying people into donating.

Agree on ostracizing, but flipping some shit for being a cheap fuck is what this site was built on. Last year we tried really hard to make the annual fund drive fun and quirky, with the dong meter and everything. Derek and I actually talk a good bit about the fund support and our approach, so while it looks juvenile and not well thought out, that's just my presentation. We really do have a plan, my execution is usually where shit goes off the rails. -
The Athletic seems to have found that consumers will pay to get good sports content without ads. I certainly enjoy it a lot more than other outlets now.
What other models have you considered?
