“Once effective, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact could diminish the role of smaller states like Nevada in national electoral contests and force Nevada’s electors to side with whoever wins the nationwide popular vote, rather than the candidate Nevadans choose”

HRYK.
It will be funny as fuck when California has to give all it’s votes to a republican. -
The founders obviously saw one or two large cities determining the vote. Can't have that.
-
His reason is of course pure bullshit but if he's looking for the voters of his state to have the largest impact his ultimate decision isn't wrong.

The 2020 presidential election will likely boil down to about 200,000 voters in three states. Whomever wins at least two out of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan likely wins the election. How is the electoral college not an example of a few states holding the rest of the country hostage?Sledog said:The founders obviously saw one or two large cities determining the vote. True. And trump will lose the popular vote again by 3 million votes minimum.GDS said:

Good thing we don't rely on the popular vote to elect Presidents isn't it El Monte.CirrhosisDawg said:

You assume the other states are static which they aren'tGDS said:

I'd be curious to know how many voters are out there like myself. I didn't vote for Trump in 2016, but I'd vote for him now. Trump's popular vote totals could increase.RaceBannon said:

And you still need Ohio and Florida if you are GOP in particular
I expect Trump's total to go up as well as the states he wins
How can they not with Putin helping him? -
I said likely - not certain. You could still boil it down to 6-7 states if you want to expand beyond the three I mentioned. How is that not a few states holding the nation hostage via the EC something sled argued shouldn't happen in an election?RaceBannon said:

Those states aren't holding the nation hostage, they are in play and could go either way. Your way would allow New York and California and Illinois and a handful of other large population liberal states to hold the entire country hostage. It would also create a system much more susceptible to fraud.GDS said:

A single voter in LA or NYC has the same power as a single voter in Cheyenne, Wyoming or Tulsa, Oklahoma in a popular vote election. Under the EC none of those votes really matter. Every other election I have seen or participated in whether it's school counsel, senate, mayor etc etc means whomever gets the most votes wins. For some reason president is the only elected office in this country that is elected in a different manner.SFGbob said:

I actually don't want us to scrap the EC but would to see us go to a proportional system or voting by CDs like in Nebraska and Maine. Then you might actually see candidates campaigning in places like California, Illinois, New York, Alabama, Louisiana etc etc whereby those states currently never see a presidential candidate. -

Beverly Hills saw Obama multiple times collecting money

The systems has worked for over 200 years and as soon as you lose an election you no longer like the system.

Better than LA and New York holding the nation hostage. Winning states should count more than buying votes with our tax dollars. That's all you get in the big slums of the USA. California shouldn't even be allowed for their votes to count as they register illegals to vote as a matter of state law.GDS said:

I’m refinancing my home mortgage again this week Cuog. Trump’s trade wars have deflated capital markets and significantly reduced interest rates as investors flee to safety in US treasuries. Still claim mortgage refinance is a bad move because tax law caps combined SLT and home mortgage interest itemized deductions at $10k?
