The US enjoys massive comparative economic advantages against China. Capitulating to domestic US populist-protectionist demagoguery will fail miserably, as is currently on display. Pulling out of tpp was another in a sequence of horribly botched trump policy changes. Ultimately the force of change will come from continued Innovative dominance, and commitment to leading a rules-based trading system. Reducing ourselves to chi com levels through tariffs in the name of supporting obsolescence, incompetence and uncompetitiveness is the trump’s road to ruin. -

Israel’s Communications Ministry is in consultation with the defense establishment prior to its expected launch of a tender for the country’s 5th generation (5G) cellular phone network, following worldwide concern over the activities of Chinese companies.
Amid bans and allegations of espionage against Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, and wider concern over how Chinese companies could be used by Beijing, Israel will soon have to decide on whether it will allow the company to compete in the 5G tender.
The Communications Ministry said it is in touch “with security elements as part of the administrative [preparation] work, [and] as part of the process of formulating a 5G tender. Security elements are activating their various authority in line with the law, and in line with security considerations.”
Huawei has been slapped with bans from carrying out 5G-related infrastructure work in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Japan has also banned the company from supplying network equipment. Debates about potential bans are raging in Britain, Germany, Poland and other countries. Alarmed by prospects of espionage, the United States is applying heavy pressure on its European allies to avoid working with the company on 5G network construction.
Harel Menashri, head of cyber department at the Holon Institute of Technology in Israel and a founder of the Shin Bet’s cyber division, said that Israel should wait to see how the Five Eyes alliance—comprised of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand—proceed before making its own decision on whether to permit Huawei to take part in an Israeli 5G tender.
“The Ministry of Communications is under very strong security regulation, and rightly so,” said Menashri.
“China is a very important country,” he stated. “We should not stop doing business with China, but we should take very seriously the question of what we can and what we should not do. We must understand China’s activities.”
Israel will likely closely monitor how the Five Eyes alliance will act regarding Huawei, he assessed. “The U.S. has also been very active in other countries, like Poland and Hungary to get them to stop using Chinese companies. America is heavily pressuring Germany to do the same,” said Menashri.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, the United States has told Germany that a failure to heed its warning could result in damage to intelligence cooperation.
“If I was making decisions, I’d say, let’s first look at what the others are doing,” added Menashri.

I don't think the tariffs will make them submit. Or if they do submit they likely won't enforce. For this to happen China will need a recession to come to bargaining table. If the US wants to go into negotiations with a strong hand our economy will have to continue to chug along. Trump also needs to win a second term or we're probably starting from scratch. Lots of ifs. Could work if everything plays out just right. If not we just wasted alot of economic productivity and we're back where we started. -

You dipshits are quick to place the onus on the individual when poor finanical choices are made. Where is the outrage at the private sector for not showing more responsibility here. China won't make any substantial concessions in future trade deals because of tariffs. Enforcement in China will always be lax. Worthless ding to the economy.

What I find interesting about this whole thing is democrats bitching about the damage the tariffs are doing to our commerce. Where were they when the Chinese were putting my industry out of business? Not a peep from Clinton or any other democrats for that matter. They can go fuck themselves.
Private businesses have made a decision in the past to get into bed with the Chinese devil for short term gains at the expense of trillions of lost revenue in areas not under their control. I have zero empathy for them or the democrats who have watched this happen and done nothing but now want to hypocritically bitch. Let the prices increase, employ more people in the manufacturing sector here in this country, find alternative raw material sources, be healthy and move on. We can't afford trading partners who don't play fair, steal our technology and are using it against us by spying on us with that tech.
The democrats on here like that behavior by the Chinese and could give two shits about all the people the Chinese have put out of business here in this country. Hence their criticism of Trump when what he is doing is the right thing.
