Very, very hard to make a living in Montana. Idaho has Boise and some tech and related industry, but not much else. I know more than a few guys who've gone to the Dakotas and lived in one of those company towns, where they build nice hotels and restaurants on the fucking spot to support what is a very healthy micro economy. But my sense of those places is that if you're not in one of those businesses or working for one, your SOL.
