Why do you think there is a graveyard of liberals on this bored?

If they had anything going for them they would be crowing all day, but there simply isn't.

I'd be the first to congratulate as I'm not beholden to any party.

I'm a soft NorCal millennial with a Puerto Rican mom, not Cletus from South Carolina.

If you're untethered to your political ideology and actually calling balls and strikes with a dash of critical thinking, you can see how lost the left is right now.
There's plenty of liberals on this board. There's also a bunch of fucking leftists like the Dazzler, @TheKobeStopper and the Ostrich Boy.

When this country turns around is when the majority of real liberals take back the label from the Marxists that have co-opted both the name and the Democratic Party. Or switch to the Republican party.

Exactly. Race and I are liberals.
Arguably the following are all liberals:

    @RaceBannon @MikeDamone @pawz @creepycoug @PurpleThrobber @UW_Doog_Bot @Swaye @koopdog

Apologies to those not receiving FREE PUB! but there's a hell of a lot more to that could be mentioned. Those who are in favor of the free market, limited government intervention in one's personal life, protection of individual rights and beliefs. The *real* fiscally conservative, socially liberal mindset.

    Sounds more libertarian than liberal.
Classic liberalism is more closely aligned with libertarianism than the authoritarian view of the new 'liberals'. Progressives want nothing to do with classic liberalism or libertarianism. Progressive want control over every aspect of the individual with the state being the ultimate arbiter of truth (I see you Ministry of Truth).

The thing that keeps The Throbber from going full on libertarian is the degree of government involvement. Hardcore libertarians would argue that things like borders are unnecessary. There is also a necessary evil of governments for things like providing for the common defense, construction of large scale projects like roads, etc.

I suspect I'm more or a true conservative because I want as little government as possible. As a "liberal" do you support unionized labor? I do not.

The free market will dictate whether unionized labor is necessary. Unionized labor is a supply/demand issue in the conduct of business.

Classical liberalism seeks to minimize government, relegate it to those things that ensure individual liberty by protecting inherent rights, and that government has to be at the consent of the people. These ideas are antithetical to leftist/progressive ideology which features as a central tenant the need for a strong powerful centralized government (under their "expert" control) to manage the masses for the "collective good". Conservatism is rooted in classical liberalism, but does have "legs of its tripod" that can compete with its central tenant. Regnery wrote about this in Upstream.

Thanks. So let's discuss unions from couple of different perspectives then. How does the free market dictate whether unionized labor is necessary from a government perspective say within the protection of the people (fire fighters, police etc.) versus construction? I get the construction market forces but don't see how the free market can impact what has destroyed much of our government apparatus. In large part, the concept of unionization is what created the swamp which is destroying what once made this country great.

Try to fire a unionized Gov’t worker. It’s nearly impossible. The mountain of evidence is no match for the nearly unlimited appeals and finally the left wing arbitrator with final decision making power.

You appear to be under the impression that the Throbber is in favor of unions, corrupt influence into government and intervention of the state into private enterprise.

Our esteemed economist @UW_Doog_Bot is more educated on theory - but in my view, unions are simply the counterbalance to management's inability to allocate capital properly.

Oh no I wasn't under that impression. I was just wondering what the difference between a classical liberal and what I think I must be as a conservative is. Now here's where, IMO, real free market forces would apply. If management doesn’t run a company properly, that company will fail. If that management is in charge of a govenrment organization, they are promoted and rewarded for failure and the people who pay for the mess are forced to pay even more. Government has always been and will always be corrupt. The elimination of unions would make it less so. If it is necessary, the impetus to work within its confines should be from a desire to serve and help people not to become powerful and rich.

You are right about this entirely. One of my shining achievements in a 20+ year Army career was getting 3 GS employees fired and it was a slog. Lots of shitbag GS employees who get hired under the Veteran's Preference, etc. that don't deserve the job. They have to really, really fuck up. Fortunately, I kept extensive notes, gathered affidavits, and documented the shit out of everything. But it really pissed me off... spending hundreds of hours trying to remove stains from my Units and Organizations instead of spending time leading Soldiers.

I don't believe any public service/ government organization should be allowed a union. They essentially bargain against the taxpayer. God.... Would love to get the Teacher's Union the fuck out of the Universe. The Union has done so much damage to this country by itself. But #teachersareheroes

    Great poast. TYFYS. For real.
