    I took it as no one wants a superpower with military bases and weapons right by them. Story as old as time.

    Not sure how many of you here are up to date on the political issues with the Solomon Islands, but the citizens there are opposing the prime minister who is aligning with China. Lots of recent protests, and anti-Chinese stuff, while the prime minister is trying to contract with China military to quell the people. China is using it to get a foothold in the South Pacific and wants a puppet there.

    US is late to the game in trying to reestablish an embassy there. More foreign policy issues but whatever. We'll see if the US or Australia can prevent a dictator with aligning with China.

    Also, FWIW, Aussies hate China. Lot of tariff issues lately.
