Texas A&M signed one of the best classes in the modern era of recruiting in February.
Now it’s unquestionably the best.
Five-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton of Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton reclassified from the 2023 class and signed with the Aggies last week. He is rated the No. 18 overall player and the No. 5 defensive lineman in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite and had offers from, well, everyone.
Texas A&M’s 2022 class now includes a record eight five-star prospects and 20 players who rank in the top 125 nationally. There are an amazing five top-60 defensive linemen in that group. That’s the type of recruiting class that puts you in national title contention.
Critics are quick to point out the Aggies have yet to win a division title in the SEC, but coach Jimbo Fisher has done the one thing that’s hardest to do in college football: elevate a program that has historically recruited at a solid level and put them in a position to sign a superclass.
Signing one superclass instantly legitimizes Texas A&M as a player nationally, and it will be very interesting to see if Fisher can do it again in 2023.
