Would a coach like Randy Bennett have success at UW?

St. Mary's has 3x nationally rated recruits on their roster.

Yet they're 24-6, ranked no. 23 in the country and just knocked off Gonzaga.

They've made 5x NCAA tournaments in the last 11 years and are about to make it a 6th.

They've made 5x NIT tournaments over this span as well.

He's gotten a lot done with far less raw talent than UW could ever dream of. UW comfortably lands one to three, 4 or 5 star recruits in every recruiting class, and has for the last decade, but drastically fails to develop them.

How would Randy Bennett do with the type of talent UW can attract? Would a team w. Jayden McDaniels and Isaiah Stewart, led by Randy Bennett, have reached the pinnacle of NCAA basketball? Or would he have failed just the same?

Is it not worth it to UW to offer whatever means necessary to attract a coach who might want to reach the next level but is limited by the talent walking through the door?

If I'm UW, I'm offering a Randy Bennett whatever he wants.

Why hasn't another program come calling for him after 11 seasons?

Lifetime annuity at St. Mary's vs. a 5 year deal at UW. Business decision. Plus he's a prickly prick. Probably not the best interviewee to the academics.

He wouldn't attract talent like McDaniels or Stewart. Totally different style of ball. Bennett has made a living off Aussies and white dudes. That ain't the Seattle AAU scene. Few and Lloyd would continue to pick off the cream of the crop and then you'd still have to fend off the blue bloods for the uber-high level talent.

Not saying Bennett isn't a MASSIVE upgrade over Hop but the complexion (intentional) of the program would not be Romar Part Deux.

BTW, Ernie Kent was a former St. Mary's head coach. So consider that risk. Ole'!

If we don’t play the game for football what makes anybody think that we will for hoops? Hoops is the definition of mediocrity

    I’d take him.
