I read his autobiography last year. I'm surprised I finished it because it became the same story over and over. Drug abuse, sex addiction, fights, troubles with dad, homelessness, sleeping on couches, tours that were successful, tours that were disasters, almost dying in a Montreal hospital, etc.

I'm guessing it was overdose or suicide.

I've definitely heard that story before somewhere...
I'm with you so I consulted the interwebs. Ellensburg boy who went on to front Queens of the Stone Age. I was never a big fan of QOTSA (I like to call them that).

I knew of him as lead singer of the Screaming Trees

Songs for the Deaf was really the only great album Josh Homme was able to churn out was with Lanegan and Dave Grohl
Honestly have never heard of Screaming Trees (took a listen and it's pretty vanilla to my ears). Queens of the Stone Age got a bunch of commercial airplay, though.
Edit: Have heard "Nearly Lost You" a bunch of times. Didn't know that was Screaming Trees.
