Holy fuck.
Social is all about reading, and ideally, somewhat leading the culture. That includes both your followers and your potential followers.
Karen shows such a profound ineptitude to read the room - the UW social ecosystem - it's truly staggering. Post after post she demonstrates that she has no clue how she's seen, nor is any strategy apparent behind her mundane, beta, candyass expressions.
This is more than shocking given her role at as digital director. Post after post, she proves herself to be the poster child for UW's botched, failing, clueless, head-up-it's ass image.
Any average fucking teenager with an Iphone could show up with more intelligence, edge and awareness that this nitwit. -

If Karen was working on one of my social media teams, I would have, by now, recognized her lack of strategy (plan and purpose), and her failure to understand her own voice. I would recognize that she can't distinguish good content from the shit her grandma might post. Frankly, I would recognize that she's simply not bright, and that we'd fucked up by putting her in this job that she can't do well. Not bright is pretty much impossible to fix. But for HR reasons, I'd still be obligated to try to talk with her and try to get her to understand good work. So you'd start that painful handholding - knowing from experience and instinct that her case is futile. You'd try to get Karen to see the delta between the stupid shit she says and does, and where her output needs to be. Nevermind getting Karen's work to superlative - it would be a task to just get her to be average. But mostly you'd recognize pretty quickly that she just didn't have it, and maybe you could move her to coordinating recruiting visits or something where she couldn't directly embarrass the brand.
The problem is - and I think another poster said this last week - that you know Jen isn't doing any of this. Instead they bond over all the negativity that Karen is drawing to herself. It validates Jen's own victim-struggle narrative. It validates her oblivion about how the UW fans are wrong and terrible. I guarantee they won't look in the mirror and realize what a shitty job they're doing compared to the best programs. There will be hugs. UW as a program and a fanbase will continue to pay the price. -

I don't know why everyone is complaining about her, the interview with Jen consisted of what her red wine preference was....merlot or cab. Did we really think it would be based on competency....lol.
