12 million new owners, limited production capacity, increased demand, shutdowns for the china virus, more difficult work restrictions, materials shortages for the mentioned reasons. Also one can't expand equipment quickly or easily in this industry. Machinery used is very expensive and takes 2+ years to order build and deliver then they need to be able to produce more components to assemble so it requires expansion in all areas below the loading process.

I stocked deep years ago. I fondly remember the days of buying quality surplus .308 ammo for 130.00 per thousand. 8MM Mauser for 70.00, 7.62X39 Chinese steel core for under 100.00 etc. etc. etc. Rule of thumb for what one needs:
1. Vicious evil assault rifle, 6 spare mags 1,000 rounds 2. Quality heavy duty fighting handgun and 200 rounds 3. 12 gauge shotgun and 200 rounds + hunting ammo 4. .22LR rifle and lots of ammo
Good large med kit, extra prescription meds, several trauma kits, antibiotics, disinfectants, soaps etc.
Most importantly LEAR HOW TO USE IT ALL CORRECTLY! Practice.

Ammo may be the new currency!
I Agree on the 6 magazines, per caliber, for rifles, but only 3 for pistols. My rule of thumb is all magazines fully loaded and then at least 1000 rounds, per caliber, on top of that (5000 minimum for .22LR). Replace it as you shoot it.

Don't forget food and med supplies.
Luckily when I moved and had to clean everything out I discovered enough rounds hidden in cubby holes
