    Madden and Robinson grew up in Daly City and attended the same parochial school. Robinson went to the parochial high school, while Madden attended the public high school.

    They both went to UO to play college football. Madden redshirted his freshman year after suffering a knee injury and transferred to the College of San Mateo, ending up at Cal Poly-SLO.

    Robinson went on to play his college career at UO and in the 1958 Rose Bowl. He coached at UO from 1960-71.
