Shaq Thompson and Lavon Coleman impressing Petersen

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/huskyfootball/2014/04/08/uw-spring-practice-notes-uw-coaches-excited-about-young-running-back-lavon-coleman/

“I knew about him in high school, but I didn’t spend much time studying him and researching him, because at the end of the day Boise wasn’t one of the places he was going to go,” UW coach Chris Petersen said. “So when we figured that thing out early on, we kind of moved on. Knew about him certainly when we played against him, studied him there. But, really, I’m still learning about him. If I had to say one thing, what I know right now is he’s just a very good football player. You put him on offense, you put him on defense, you put him as the kick returner, he can just do a lot of things very well. And so I like coming out here to see him get a run and see him make a play on defense and pull the ball out. And so that’s interesting, that’s intriguing. He’s one of the guys I’m real anxious to go play a real game with, to see that show up, because he does so many good things out here.”

Shaq stripped Ross and housed it 50 yards for a touchdown then had a solid practice running the ball. I think many in here can agree that we were a little underwhelmed by Shaq Thompson last season. I don't think that will be the case this next year.

Far as the running game goes with Washington, Callier, Cooper, Coleman, Shaq and Baker getting some carries I think the running game will be fine especially with Miles at QB(even Lindquist or Williams as well can run). I think Petersen is smart enough to pull off a committee like Rick did so well in 2000 while Dude Brah obviously couldn't pull it off.

Says a lot for Petersen to give Shaq that much lip service.

expecting big things from Predator next season.

I knew Petersen couldn't recruit guys like Thompson!

What's funny is I bet Kim actually probably came away from that article thinking that.

"You need a handful of backs. No position takes more a pounding." Sounds like we'll see a platoon which I like.

I love his response when someone asked him about does he want his players to learn more about the Northwestern situation. "I want them to focus on the two hours out here on the practice field. Then focus afterwards on academics. I want them to prioritize things".

Running back by Committee doesn't replace Sankey. The question is are there any backs on the roster that scare opposing defensive coordinators? Can't say that yet, so your generalizations show your ignorance you son of a cunt. Maybe your daddy didn't explain that to you at all those games he took you to (that none of us went to). Keep chugging along there sweettits, this football thing will catch on eventually.

Is QB by committee going to get us to a rose bowl too?

If it's Coleman/Washington with Miles at qb and no hampering injuries to our receiving core, then wtf is the problem?

Yea cause Willie Hurst, Paul Arnold, Braxton Clemen and Rich Alexis really scared opposing defensive coordinators. Good call you ignorant fuck.

I also think several people in here are really selling Dwayne Washington short. Anyways with Chris Petersen coaching along with Washington, Coleman, Callier, and Cooper plus Shaq/Baker the Huskies will be running the ball quite a bit.

No need for a QB by committee when Cyler Miles has proven to be a Pac-12 caliber starter.
LIPO, it wasn't like he was throwing against USC or Stanford.

There won't be one. Entire OL is back and actually have an OL coach who has proven to develop talent instead of a guy that you don't want to see get mad.

Did I say he'd be an all-american? I simply said he's proven to be Pac-12 caliber starter. Not really going out on a limb given what he has shown us, the fact he was a 4 star recruit(#2 QB in the nation according to Rivals). His running ability alone will make him at worst a decent starter.

No backup has had more game time experience before becoming a starter since Tui. Miles had plenty of snaps and every time looked comfortable. Played an entire second half on the road against a ranked UCLA and looked fine. Looked fine against Oregon State on the road. Despite his stats looked good in the 4th quarter of a close bowl game against BYU(Had a perfect TD pass that was flat dropped).

With Miles at QB I'm not even remotely worried about that position.

I would be more concerned that he hasn't been working with the new coaching staff this Spring, not so much throwing but just being tutored by a real coach.

You're playing pretty fast and loose with the word proven. Plenty of guys have come in and looked good in limited action and ended up being terrible.

I feel good about the quarterback position because there are multiple highly rated players fighting for the job. Not because Miles beat up on Oregon State.
Again for the 100th time, said he's simply proven Pac-12 caliber. Didn't even say proven all conference. I'm not even saying he'll be better than Price(I do think he will be all said and done) just stating he's proven he can start in this conference with his running ability alone.

His mechanics might be a problem far as getting to that next level but he's accurate enough where he'll be fine.

Also he did more than Oregon State which I already explained. This isn't a Casey Paus throwing 8 passes against Oregon and that is all we have to base it on.

Miles >>> Paus. That's something we all agree with but his sample size while impressive is rather small. He's got potential to do well based on his play last year and his ranking (those are never wrong - Hi Nick!) plus he's got 4 cupcakes to get settled in but he has yet to prove he's Pac12 starting caliber.

Sure is a lot of talk about offensive skill position players when that is one of the smallest problems UW has had in the past few seasons.
