It shows how great a job Oregon is, when below average coaches can win there.
It's almost certainly in Oregon's interest to solidify their brand in this regard. Time for aother demonstration. I'd suggest Wilcox, or even Jimmy Lake.
Sling had one of the GOATs at the most important position on the field for his turn at the wheel. Mariota would have won a lot of games for a lot of coaches at a lot of schools.
They use the term "generational talent" ... that kid fit the bill. He was a fucking back breaker to play against. I compare that to Larry Coker at Miami. At some point, the team is so good it's hard to fuck it up.
Yeah, Mario had Herbert. There's a difference though. Herbert is ideally suited for the pro game, but that doesn't mean he could take over a game in college the way Mariota could and did ... time and time again.
There's no question, if you have to win a college game and have one guy under center, you choose MM over JH every fucking time, and it's not even close.

Depends on the team. Herbert would perform better than Mariota in the SEC win arm strength and technicals are more important. While Mariota is the better option probably everywhere else.

To quote George C. "I was in the pool! I was in the pool!"

Joe Burrows took over games with his arm and very talented WR's. His coach was dumb but smart enough to get an OC to make it all come together. The guy the U just hired had that guy, but he chose to NOT portal in a couple of WR's that could separate and take the top off the D. Instead he turned JH into handoff guy and dunker to JAG WR's. Look what Young just did to UGA. MM never had the arm talent or accuracy to do what these guys do.

Get ready.
Eh, you may be right. Nobody knows. The Oregon situation was not the LSU situation, and I'm not sure Herbert was ready to be anybody's Joe Burrow at that point in his development. By the time he got to Cristo he was on, what, his third offensive coordinator? I think you guys are remembering Herbert a little more fondly now. There was a lot of shit talk among Ducks about Herbert being a physical specimen but not a great QB. In any event, he could not do what Mariota did.

Crisco had Herbert
Neither could really coach, at least Crisco could recruit.
