Sometimes a coach just has to coach

Not noted is that the OC during those periods was Babushka who also is having a very strong rate of success in the running game at Oregon St

The Colts have the most talented OL in the NFL so that also helps.
LG Quenton Nelson is pretty unanimously considered to be the best interior OL in the entire league, and the LT and C were pro bowlers last season on top of that. Reminiscent of the 2005 Seahawks OL -
A strong argument can be made that Huff's recruiting the last 2 years has been just as bad as Strausser's ever was.
Obviously there are lots of factors (players, scheme, etc) but the way our line worked as a team under Strausser was a thing of beauty. Under Huff, it has been putrid.
With the next o line coach, it might be a good idea to look into hiring a surly old fuck who might not relate as well to the kids but earns their respect by knowing his shit (see Michalczyk at OSU) -
How does a coach get called a shit recruiter when his unit is high-performing?
-
Because he gets the people that your peers didn’t want and he doesn’t call them very often during the process according to the kids. Pete did some of the heavy lifting like taking over McGary’s recruitment for strausser. Good coach that hated recruiting and was fired for it. It is possible to be a good coach and recruiter.TXDawg said:How does a coach get called a shit recruiter when his unit is high-performing?

That’s a great question. If you’re a HC, do you want the steak of having a great positional coach or the sizzle of a 50-year old man who doesn’t mind texting 17-year old boys at 10pm?AtomicDawg said:It is possible to be a good coach and recruiter.

Obviously good at both recruiting and coaching is ideal. But would prefer a better coach/shit recruiter to a good recruiter/shit coach by a long mile.
-
You have to do both. For a great coach/developer a large percentage of Strausser’s diamond in the rough signees never came close to doing shit. Sosebee, James, Turner, remember these names?
It became abundantly clear in 2016 and 2017 as our Plan A-D guys signed elsewhere that another Adams or McGary wasn’t walking through that door.
To say otherwise is revisionist history.
The Nfl is a better fit for him. -
