This dude is some kind of a fucking savant. Sandman isn't what I'd call a technically complex Metallica song (see Dyer's Eve, Battery and Disposable Heroes) but to play it at that level after hearing it once is some kind of crazy Beautiful Mind shit.

You are right, but I don’t think it’s as uncommon as you think. I think a lot of skilled guitarists can do it. I have a friend (professional musician and producer but still) that can do exactly this. I used to be mind blown, but it comes easy to a great guitarist.
