Your commitment to creating a culture where values and winning are equally valued is falling short in one of the sports at the University of Washington. That sport is your largest generator of income. In articles you have stated you have certain values both personally , professionally and wish to create an athletic department that reflects these values. Unfortunately, you have an adult coach making inappropriate physical contact with a player on a prime time national broadcast. Coach Lakes behavior clearly violates the code of conduct that you profess both publicly and within the organization that all of your employees have signed.

If you refuse to enforce the administration’s own code of conduct it sends a clear message to the conference, to the NCAA but most importantly to the young men and women and their parents that trusted you to create a culture of care and support. If you fail to merely enforce polices and the beliefs in the articles that I have referenced, it demonstrates that the athletic department has other concerns rather than the culture that these young men and young women operate in PERIOD.

I have confidence that you follow your administration’s own policies and work with legal and Mr Lakes representatives for an immediate dismissal and begin a search for a coach that embodies the values of the University of Washington
