The problem with Wilner’s take is that he’s saying we aren’t all that talented this year. Jimmy Lake is about to miss a bowl game with a team that has a 40+% blue chip ratio. On paper, we have the talent.

So if that talent isn’t producing, whose fault is that? If all of our hires are either no names, internal promotions, or alumni, whose fault is that? If we are bad now and Wilner says no second year coach should be fired, doesn’t that mean there be some hope for the future? What is that hope? What has happened over the last 19 months that makes us think this is redeemable with the current regime in charge?

    In short, FYFMFE

I don’t think we are especially talented and the blue chip stuff was always bullshit. A lot of them have transferred and most of them were low 4 star guys that the blue bloods didn’t want.

The Clemson of the West stuff was always bullshit because Clemson and the other schools on the list have/had way more actually elite, top 50-100 guys.
The team is not super talented but when stacked up vs the feast of the conference they should be no
Worse that 7-2 with an average coach.

You’re more talented than these schools.

    Osu
    Wazzu
    Arizona
    Cal
    Stanford
    Colorado

Have as much talent as the rest of the teams to go 1-2. It’s about what you’re doing with the talent you have vs your peers and it is an under Performence of epic proportions.

Completely agree. And a lot of it does have to do with a lack of development, shitty schemes, and the shitty culture. I just don’t see a ton of guys that I think are genuinely good. A lot of average or worse players in our two deeps.
They don't look good because of the reasons you mentioned in your first sentence. Talented players with bad schemes and bad coaching look average or below at all the other schools with high blue chop ratio too.

Your assertion that the roster is dominated by low 4* that nobody else wanted isn't true either. That wasn't the case in any of Petersens classes.
I don’t think it’s dominated by them. We have had a lot of four star busts tho.
Bad coaching and bad schemes can make our players look way worse than they are

Wilner has obviously never been here. The lunatic fringe has always been alive and in full force around these parts.

The lunatic fringe only gets brought up in the media or by the AD when the product tanks. That's when the fence sitters fall into the fringe and the voices get loud enough to hear. When they are heard they then get called out by their betters and ostracized as crazies or unhinged people so that the good little fans can yell at the fringe and the two sides can attack each other rather than pay attention to the poor decisions and leadership that is sinking the ship. It's a great strategy that plays out everyday in America. It works too.
