It's possible to have aggressive bruising attack style offense mentality, especially on offensive line and still be a pass first offense. There was also mention Kellen Moore being a candidate for the OC job. Is that not in the mold of Chris Peterson and more pass oriented offense? That's what kind of confusing.
It’s not about being a pass first offense. It’s about inviting everyone into the box with a predictable unimaginative offense. Running the ball is cool.

It's like JL changed his philosophy based on who he could hire for the OC job. Then he looked around and saw David Shaw and thought. Look at him. He's got good job security running a boring offense. I don't know know much about offense, but we'll copy what they got. If he doesn't have what it takes to be imaginative on offense, then he should hire the best to run that side of the ball, and that didn't happen. And now that makes me wonder what going on the recruiting side. Sooner or later we will hear stories from former players and former recruits why they didn't choose the team. That will be interesting too.

Stanford caused him more problems than passing offenses while he was d coordinator, so that's what he tried to emulate...
It was obviously a very simplistic and flawed approach.

Could it be that Stanford’s offense caused him problems simply because both safetys were 20+ yards deep and never in position to stop the run?
Could it be that Jimmy was so obtuse that he never adjusted this defense and thought Stanford’s offense was great only because he never made adjustments?

No way
The worst thing about emulating Stanford offense is guaranteeing the program will always be middle tier performance or worse, as it only works consistently against more inferior teams. JL's goal should be how to take the program to the top through creativity/ingenuity rather than how to stay good enough.

Jimmy's goal should be writing his resignation letter/tweet and packing up the moving van.
