First of all let me say that this team has 50+ new faces and that we will not be the same team in a month's time. Heck, we weren't the same team game one to game two.
QB: Not sure who will start, so far this season, incumbent starter Layne Hatcher has completed 70% of his passed for 426 yards and 5 TDs and no picks, while James Blackman (Florida State Transfer) has completed 65% of his passes for 475 yards 4 TDs and no picks. Both have 35 completions. Blackman gives a little more run option and has a bigger arm.
RB: Four guys have gotten carries through the first two games, Alan Lamar (Yale transfer) and Johnnie Lang (Iowa St transfer) have gotten the most work though returners Lincoln Pare (Perry) and Marcel Murray have each had a solid game.
TE: We're playing a Senior and two freshmen here. Senior Reed Tyler is solid receiver, solid blocker. Freshmen Emmanuel Stevenson and Seydou Traore both have decent big play potential from the TE position.
WR: Corey Rucker started one game in 2020 and 310 yards and 5 TDs in that game. He's back as well as Jeff Foreman who had 4 straight 100 yard games to end last season and just had a huge game against Memphis. Add in TCU transfer Te'Vailence Hunt and WR is pretty set.
OL: Who knows? We had four guys returning who started last year (5 if you count the guy who started the last three), but only two of them are part of this rebuilt OL and both aren't in the same position. We ran the ball pretty well against UCA, not so much against Memphis, but our pass pro was better.
DL: This has been the largest improvement on the team, which is weird because we have a kid who started last year on the 53 for San Diego. But multiple transfers, (2 from Tennessee, North Texas, West Virginia) and some development by some of our returners has made them look better. We actually have a pass rush again.
LB: This could be our weakest group, (More on the debate for that later) with a lot of returners having to play because they're the best option we have. Coach said that against Memphis we "got back into a lot of bad habits" on defense that led to explosive plays. If that happens again in our second and third level, watch out.
DB: We did get some help in recruiting and transfers, but still a weak group here, some good athletes but haven't figured it out yet (That is where we have to recruit, athletes who aren't great FB players and try to develop or recruit FB players who just aren't as athletically talented).
ST: Got a kicker who looks 12 years old, but he's fairly consistent. We haven't had a return threat in a few years. Punter is average.

Sounds like a new look and new attitude for your DL. The boys are ready to rumble.
I'm sure they'll cut through the Husky OL like hot knife through butter.
My money is on Arkansas State.
Steve Roberts got fired after a second 4-8 season. His OC was promoted.
That OC was Hugh Freeze. Freeze leaves at the end of a 10 win season to go to Ole Miss.
He calls his buddy and tells him that they're set up to win some more.
That buddy was Gus Malzahn. Malzahn wins 9 games (10 in the bowl game he didn't coach) and leaves for Auburn.
Then we hire Bryan Harsin who at the time was Texas' OC.
He leaves to take the Boise job.
Then we hire Blake Anderson....we went 7-6, 9-4, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5, and 3-8 but the quality of play diminished basically every season after 2015.

2) The DEs hate QBs. Both Kivon Bennett and Jojo Ozoughwu have drawn the attention of NFL scouts early in the season, with both having 1.5 sacks and Bennett having 4.5 TFL. If the run game struggles for the Huskies, then the Red Wolf DEs may pin their ears back and come hell for leather.
3) Transfers. With multiple P5 transfers who have played in big time environments, it could be a helpful piece of fallback info for them walking into Husky Stadium.
4) Special Teams. While they aren't the flashiest in the world, the Red Wolf STs have been solid and have made sure that the red zone has been the score zone thus far this year. It hasn't always been the case in recent years.
5) Coaching. Butch Jones has become a name that was associated with the downfall of Tennessee football, but if you look back, the Vols hadn't been good for a while and they were better under Butch than anyone since. Then he spent three years learning at the foot of the Dark Lord Saban. He's an upgrade for the Red Wolves in every sense of the word and his experience as a HC vs Jimmy Lake's may make a difference.

Way to knock it out of the park so our coaching staff doesn't have to spend any tim reviewing film.
Just from the way folks are talking doesn't seem you guys think they do much film review anyway, so at least they have something to pass the time with.
