Hiring a defensive guy to be a HC in a game that’s heavily tilted towards offense is fucking stupid btw.
Its ok if the head guy isn't either an offense or defense guy. He needs to be the head guy. Sure its great if he is also Ryan Day or Lincoln Reilly but you can hire someone who can throw the ball around. It's not exactly the SEC when Steve Spurrior came in. Every high school team in America spreads it out and runs it up the gut or hits the middle seam.
The head man coordinates the whole program from recruiting to game day. He hires the right people. Xs and Os really are over rated to a large extent.
Jimmy is behind the times. There will be a point where defenses are too small to stop the run but we aren't there yet. You can't just line up and make any decent yardage these days
I love running the damn ball. Just run it how it works today

This was my concern when he was hired too but the Doog in me figured as a young, up and coming coach that he would recognize the direction the game is going in and hire an OC to run a modern offense. Donovan was the absolutely worse possible hire he could have made and it will doom his career.
Even Nick Saban realized he could no longer dominate with a run heavy, ball control offense yet Jimmy thinks he's smarter than Saban. Fuck off Jimmy.

I'm fine with having a defensive minded HC.
He has to value offense though, and value understanding what makes offenses work.
Not simply value what what beats his defense.
The most aggravating fucking thing about Lake (and there's a massively long list) is that he *gets* that stopping the modern passing game is the most important thing and the biggest thing to prioritize. He just doesn't get that there's a reason for that.

Jimmy’s the smartest guy in the room … until he isn’t
