As I've long said even on these boards, anybody that thinks that the United States of America is perfect has their head in the sand ...
That said, there's a lot that the United States of America has gotten right (moreso than really just about any other country or civilization throughout history) ...
And if we're really being honest, the United States has a history of working to try to get better and create that "more perfect Union" ...
Which is the thing that really bothers me the most about seeing the numbers the way that I see them coming in with young people ...
I hate to pull the whole "if you don't like it here then get out" card ... but there's truth in it because I can say with certainty that there are people throughout the world that would give everything that they have to be Americans and take part in all of the freedoms and opportunities that we have.
Even in our worst of days, I'm always optimistic about what is available and what is to come in this country. I never take for granted what it is that we have.
Unfortunately, too many don't appreciate what they have available to them. Too many want to tear down instead of find ways to change/improve. It's sad to see and watch.
And as others noted, there's no question that some of these results start with what is taking place in the education system. It's also true that this is coming from parents/families that are quick to blame others instead of looking in the mirror.
