Why would a 2* have rare abilities? Is he undermining his own evaluation method and calling himself an idiot for seeing rare abilities and rating them only 2*?

I don't think there are any 2* recruits anymore. It used to be that you'd get 1* guys with rare traits. Nate Robinson was one. It just meant they hadn't been rated yet. Now they just slap a rating on everyone whether any analysts have seen him or not.

I’ve seen a couple of small school 2 star guys end up being pretty good linemen in college. Get a 6’5 245lb kid to Oregon State, have him get up to 280 and now you have a guard in the pac 12, finding ready made linemen is very hard when you have bigger schools with higher budgets taking 4 every year.
