Rick Hamlet vs. Mike "Roll Tide" Price

As Whatshouldicareabout dropped a coogloser turd on us with his post "For the lulz....", I am reminded of the infamous [Anonymous] Editorial "Coach Rick Hamlet" published in the Seattle Times on December 14, 2002:

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20021214&slug=ricked14

This piece of Huskyhate was important enough at the time to solicit an open letter to The Seattle Times from our friend Derek Johnson writing for something called Scout. Looking back and given what subsequently happened, this anonymous editorial comparing the attributes of two head football coaches must be the all-time cooginit opinion ever written slamming Husky Football. As we eagerly anticipate the start of Spring practices, we can be thankful that no matter what happens, we at least are not sodbusters living in Pullmania.

I see the hyperbole but, do you have a point?

The point was ironical as it happened a decade ago. The anonymous editorial opinion reviling RN and putting Mike Price on a pedestal by comparison was supposedly written by the then owner of The Seattle Times who was a WSU grad, Walla Walla resident, and Husky hater extraordinaire. Within six mouths, RN was fired for a lie in testimony to the NCAA which turned out to be the truth because the lawyer in him understood the NCAA's rule on gambling better than the NCAA. The morally corrupt Price was date-raped in a Florida hotel and fired from his Alabama dream job without coaching even a Tide practice nor drawing a paycheck because the dumb clod hadn't signed a contract.

In the end, the urban sophisticate RN walked away with a $4.5 million out-of-court settlement of his wrongful firing lawsuit against the UW and NCAA and the thoroughly scandalized Mike Price dragged his sorry ass to El Paso, the farthest outpost of collegiate football not located in the Palouse. All of this, starting with the anonymous editorial came after WSU football had reached it's zenith of three straight 10-win seasons, during which the greatest sodbuster coach of all-time failed to beat Rick Hamlet even once. You can take the winner out of the Husky, but never the loser out of the coog.

The date that editorial appeared, Mike Price was still head coach at WSU, had just won national coach of the year after winning the Pac-10 and was headed to the Rose Bowl for the second time in 5 years.

So... do you have a point that makes some sense or should we just let this thread die a miserable and pathetic death?

RN settled because UW won that case going away. Section14a told me.

Yah. I heard that revisionist bullshit somewhere. Never understood how RN could lose a lawsuit and walk away from a job he didn't want with $2.5 million from the UW and another $2 million from the NCAA.

Northwest title, celebrate on the "O", soul-crush the crimson faithful in Pullman, get fired and pocket massive coin in the process: Rick doing Rick.

What is it about "within six months" that's unclear to you? Your reading with comprehension skills are what's pathetic.
