Golf, golf and some more golf. I guess some people go there for the resorts and nice restaurants but as you say you can get there anywhere.

Golf and the weather for 8-9 months of the year. Same with Phoenix/Scottsdale. Warm to hot with little humidity, unlike Florida. Also, not a lot of wind like in Hawaii. Don't like playing golf in the wind - or rain.
