Former Trail Blazers Sebastian Telfair, Darius Miles and Ruben Patterson among 18 former NBA players charged in $4 million fraud scheme
Former Portland Trail Blazers players Sebastian Telfair, Darius Miles and Ruben Patterson along with current Blazers assistant coach Milt Palacio are among 18 former NBA players who have been charged with defrauding the league’s health care and welfare benefit plan out of roughly $4 million, according to an indictment in New York.
The indictment said that the former players engaged in a widespread scheme to defraud the plan by submitting false and fraudulent claims to get reimbursed for medical and dental expenses that never took place.

A VERY PUBLIC EDUCATION: New York City Has Run Out of ‘Gifted and Talented’ Students. “The group of kindergarten students currently enrolled in the special programs will be the last to be offered the accelerated learning courses. The reason? Not enough black and Hispanic students are able to qualify for the program. So rather than offer accelerated learning to anyone who can qualify, the city is catering to the lowest common denominator.”
