So carjacking is up in Portland to the surprise of no one. Stop prosecuting car theft and you get lots of car theft. Some blame the lack of police. They are catching the perps then letting them go. Decline is a choice and the people of Portland and Seattle have chosen poorly.
The Oregon Court of Appeals essentially decriminalized car theft (Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a Class C felony), back in 2014.
Prior to 2014, it was a low priority among Oregon law enforcement.
It used to be: Car thief made up a story when pulled over, e.g., a guy named Joe lent me the car. Police contact registered owner of vehicle who has reported it stolen or says it is stolen. Registered owner states they don’t know car thief and did not authorize him/her or anybody else to be in possession of their vehicle. Car thief charged with 1 count of UUMV.
In 2014, the Oregon Court of Appeals, in it’s infinite wisdom, approved an appeal which changed the requirements for what it took to prove the elements of the crime.
Now law enforcement must also prove that the defendant’s fictional story is false.
If you are unlucky enough to have your auto stolen, remember you will most likely recover your abandoned auto in a damaged condition, full of garbage. Frequently, the “borrowed” vehicle is used to commit other crimes while in possession of the car thief (and his/her pals).
The lucky car owner gets to pick up what’s left of their car, pay all the towing and storage fees and deal with their insurance company.
If the stolen vehicle is high value and newer, e.g., newer Mercedes, new trucks, etc. you most likely will never see it again.
I’m sure decriminalizing controlled substances will enhance the livability of Portlandia!
If the left was committed to public transit they would aggressively work to make it safe. But they don't. It's basically a scam for contractors, like Pelosi's husband and the public unions. Customers are not part of that equation.
Another apples to dog sh*t comparison. A real comparison would be busting into a surgical unit because the incompetent doctor is going to operate on the wrong leg.

The Throbber really needs to do the calculus on hooking up with that saucy tart. Might be worth the risk of losing 1/2 of net worth.
About every other one hoists them on their own petard.
