I've never been on board with moving Thompson to safety. He's either going to be an exceptionally large safety with compromised quickness and coverage skills or a smallish linebacker with exceptional quickness and coverage skills. There are tradeoffs either way, but I think his value is better closer to the line. He's pretty fucking good at getting through the mess and making tackles. He's had a down game or two where he missed some big opportunities behind the line, but (hate to play this card) he's only two years out of high school.

I think Shaq will be an early round pick after next season as a 235ish linebacker. My guess is he'll go higher than Butler or Foster did. Nothing to sneeze at.

One thing that made my eyes light up reading this discussion was the talk of the 4-3. I know Wilcox ran it too, but he was trying to pound that 3-4 in most of the time and it was a square peg... There is only one decent nose on this roster and the fucking guy was gassed 3/4 of the time. We didn't have any prototypical 3-4 ends. There is a great mix of bodies for a 4-3 though. Hudson, Qualls, Shelton and Mathis could make a great big package. Kikaha is good enough and big enough to fit in any scheme or personnel group, and Shirley, Farria and Littleton should all be serviceable as pass rush specialists.

Shaq and Feeney had their sophomore slumps but were still pretty damn good. No reason to expect anything but improvement from them this year. Timu doesn't really need to improve on his play other than to hold onto a couple more interceptions. The front seven should be really bad ass.

Dude, Shaq is 6'2" and 225lbs now, Dana Hall at corner in the NFL during the ground and pound old school was 6'2" 215lbs.... No way Shaq is playing OLB in the show with that speed and great hip swivel

He's playing in the NFL. He probably won't be a first round pick, but he is as big as Malcolm Smith and Lavonte David, who is one of the best LB's in the league. Alec Ogletree was a first round pick at 230.

The tank is slam empty at safety . If we had 2 RS JUNIORS returning at safety I'd agree with you. Baker is possibly better at safety than anyone we have on the roster so of course he should play, he has to play if we want to win some games.. Sark had problems with preperation at certain positions.

I don't disagree he'll be better than anyone else we have but i think we need to start the redshirt process right away and let the first year after sark exist with an eye on 2-3 years from now.
Not with Budda. He's too good, just like Kasen, ASJ, Shaq, Sankey, Shelton. The best guys have to play, regardless of class. If he's the fourth best safety (not happening) then redshirting him is fine, but if he's in the top 3, he has to be ready to play. I am pissed about wasting guys like Kevin Smith, Ducre, Farria, Mathis, and Darrell Daniels, but if a guy is elite, you have to play them.

Guys who don't redshirt should start or get solid playing time. Hopefully there will be no more guys like Daniels and Smith who only play on special teams, or Farria and Mathis who play only in blow outs.

cool dude brah, but i don't think the 3 plays a year we notice Budda make as a true freshmen warrant blowing his redshirt. i'm just looking for the actual future.
What part of Budda is going to start do you not understand? I guess there is a chance he doesn't start the first game, but he will start at some point next season. You think King and Beaver are beating him out? I guess ASJ and Shaq should have redshirted too. It would have been great to have ASJ as a redshirt sophomore last year.

Dana Hall never played corner in the NFL. SF drafted him as a safety. He could have been a good one, but admitted that the transition to a more physically punishing position was tough for him. Basically he didn't like pounding on TEs coming over the middle and heads on tackling NFL backs at full speed.

Shaq is not a small dude. He can play at 235 easily and there are plenty of LBs in the NFL smaller than that.

Or, maybe an NFL team will fancy him as a run stuffing safety in spite of playing LB or a hybrid role throughout college.

Mistype... Dana Hall a corner at UW at 6'2 and 215 at the combines played safety in the ground and pound NFL.... Shaq is 225lbs now and more athletic than Dana will ever be. Why do you assume Shaq will gain weight to play in the show? Most likely Shaq will enter the combines between 220 and 225 playing his natural position at safety
Either way, he was the number one ranked safety as a high school PSA, but now he may not even be the best LB on the team as a junior thanks to SarkFS

Well water is wet Meek. Baker will prolly lead the team in tackles after cleaning up Nez Peace Johnny ' s missed tackles. BB isn't playing for garbage time. He's tiny but he's fast and makes tackles. Fuck it, let's redshirt BB and watch Beaver miss Timu ' s misses and see where that gets us.

No fucking Duuuuuhhhh we need to redshirt, but not at the cost of having a shitty defense, and with our Best chance at a rose bowl in 14 years.

Burn as many as necessary as Sark left many a position lean and inexperienced.

I don't assume he'll play LB in the NFL. I'm just saying he can. I also think that transitioning from whatever he's playing for his last year at UW, whether it's a traditional LB or some kind of hybrid role, won't hurt him if the NFL sees him as more of a SS.

Bottom line for me is that, while at UW, I like him closer to the line. He's too good at sniffing out plays, getting through or around blocks, and stuffing ball carriers to move back. He also has the quickness and coverage skills to drop off and eliminate a TE or back as a receiving threat.

He will walk into Spring Ball and beg Coach K to let him take Sean Parkers SS position. After he graduates he
can send Kam Chancellor a thank you letter for making NFL teams once against salivate over large Safeties.

Who'd you poach this shit off? Should have fastracked to tailback...and came back to UW. Might have led us to Sun Bowl vs 10th place Minnesota or whoever it was the big10 conned into going that year
