I find it amazing how songs with dirty lyrics became so popular.
Of course they are not as bad as current songs.
Cardi B. "Up"
Tatt'ed on my ass 'cause I really like the pain (ah) He nutted on my butt, I said, "I'm glad that you came" If that nigga had a twin, I would let 'em run a train, woo (skrrt)

Now, yes - but they played the shit out of it on MTV/radio back then. Annoyance level high at the time.
My friend and myself were "nerds" during middle school. For a month we kept track how often a song was played on MTV. Come On Eileen was the winner by a long shot. Record Company must have been getting a lot of them.

Don't know if youse guys remember Video Jukebox, it was a request type thing...as a young man with roommates, we would bet on video counts, and there were days that the only three videos they played, for hours, were Mother, Compton City G's, and Put 'em on the Glass...csb
EDIT: One of said former roommates calls me, to this day, and leaves vm of Mother, at full volume, every time he hears it on radio...

I actually saw these guys at some KXRX $5 show (or something like that). A few bands but I think they were the headliner.
The Proclaimers recorded a demo album with the assistance of Kevin Rowland of Dexys Midnight Runners.
