Not sure how it's being administrated in other states but here in California the Covid vaccine is being distributed on a county level. You register with your county health services department on-line and they let you know when you can set up your vaccination appointment. My wife heard on Monday that the county we live in was starting to dole out the vaccine to people who didn't fit any of the high risk categories so we both registered the same day.

Questions asked include your age and if you have any health issues, your gender and of course your race. My wife got back her response yesterday letting her know that she can schedule an appointment right now to receive her first shot. I received a response that I'm still not eligible to schedule an appointment as of now. She is two months older than me and because I'm not Kobe I did marry a woman. Other than that, our only other difference is skin color.

California is using an "equity" metric in their vaccine distribution and while I don't know this for a fact, I have to believe that the only reason I didn't get the okay to be vaccinated is due to my skin color. Take that systemic racism.
